Desktop on the floor

I've yet to find a way of protecting the master bedroom ceiling monitors from a bath on the floor above overflowing.

Similarly, I have yet to find a good way of protecting the balcony monitors in a way that they can be left on during tropical rainstorms and be crystal clear.

I'm used to putting my desktop on the floor. I know from periodic cleaning of my older machines that a lot of dust can get sucked into the fans. I just got a brand new machine and am wondering if it's better off on the table, or if there's some other way to minimize dust collection. This machine was completely silent the first few weeks in operation, now it's got a slight whirring when it runs. How long should I wait before I break it open to clean things out?

never liked all these fans and the noise they are producing.

if you have got some spare cash then you may want to investigate "silent computing", some of them have heatpipes to the sides that act as cooling fins. The upshot of this is that there are no openings and the machine is "sealed". So no dirt gets inside.
