Ron Desantis has one of his most ardent right-wing allies in the Florida legislature in reprehensible Rep. Randy Fine. Fine revels in being on the front lines in Florida's culture wars promoted by Desantis, frequently taking the lead promoting his most repulsive policies.

On his way to a speaking event at a Republican women's event in his Cocoa Beach district, he was "jumped" by a member of a white nationalist, antisemitic group.

Fine told 'Florida's Voice News' that a man got in his face and said, "Why won't you tell the truth about the Jews?" In a post on X, Fine said, "I just got jumped by a Nazi with a camera." The group was reportedly 5-6 men wearing masks.

We can only assume that another DeSantis official is attempting to avoid the upcoming federal investigation and indictments... plus all the civil suits.

Desantis's Public Safety Czar Larry Keefe has quietly resigned his position. Keefe became embroiled in controversy after he orchestrated the migrant flights last September using a private vendor using secretive methods that clearly violated Florida's open government laws.

Keefe made arrangements with Vertol Systems Company to transport migrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard. Everything was done in secret with no notice whatsoever to the public. Keefe also attempted to hide the funding for the flights since they likely violated the provision that allocated funds to fly migrants from Florida, not Texas.

When making the arrangements with Vertol, Keefe did not use his official government email account, instead using a private Gmail account under the code name "Clarice Starling," named after Jodi Foster's character in The Silence of the Lambs.

Both Desantis, Keefe, and the Governor's office have steadfastly refused to comment on why a state official would intentionally circumvent public records laws for the migrant flights. Litigation is still pending on whether Keefe lied under oath about the flights and email account.

A federal judge on Thursday sentenced Joe Harding, a former Florida state representative made infamous by his authorship of the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill, to four months behind bars after he pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining a $150,000 COVID-19 relief loan.

Harding, 36, will also be subject to two years of supervised release and a $300 fine following his prison sentence. “The theft of any amount of taxpayer funds is inexcusable,” Jason Coody, the United States attorney for the Northern District of Florida, said in a press release. “However, the defendant’s deceptive acts of diverting emergency financial assistance from small businesses during the pandemic is simply beyond the pale.”

Harding resigned from the state Legislature in December, shortly after he was indicted on charges of wire fraud, money laundering, and making false statements. Having just begun his second term, he’d already gained national notoriety as the sponsor of the Parental Rights in Education Act, dubbed by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which prohibits the discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in grade school classrooms.
