DeSantis: The Authoritarian

My latest version of Chrome on Win7 doesn't have a Reader mode. Therefore, PAYWALL.

There are numerous available extensions that provide Reader mode for every browser that are easily downloadable if your browser does not support it natively.

Of course versions in recent years of Chrome, Firefox and others come with Reader Mode natively. I would urge you to upgrade from Windows 7 (it's pretty insecure) and to download a modern browser.

As I said, Chrome is no longer being updated for Win 7, and there is no reader mode available in chrome:flags. The point I am making is that people should not be forced to upgrade their devices to later Windows versions just to be able to read articles behind paywalls that YOU are posting.

Rather, YOU should be the one to make the article available to the reader by pasting them in full, since you are directing our attention to them. Obviously keep the link there for citation purposes.

You dig what I mean?

I think this analogy might work...

It's like going to a gas-station and the attendant giving you the key to the bathroom door, but once inside you have to insert a buck into the toilet stall to be able to use it.

Does that work? haha

If you are using Windows 7 you should not be posting on ET. If your Windows operating system is so old that it is no longer supported for security updates then your computer is likely to be infected -- and you are likely to infect websites you connect to -- including the uploading of trojans.

The same applies to browsers -- it you are using a browser version so old that it does not have reader mode then the browser is also so old that it is not being supported with security updates. You should not be using an ancient browser to browse the web -- this represents a danger to your own computer and the websites you browse.

You have no idea what you're on about re: my computer infecting sites like ET with trojans. That would be a real neat trick now wouldn't it? You're conflating e-mail attachments and floppys with HTTP data fetching.

You should stick to politics and leave the PC security decisions to the users.

I guess the point I was making about content courtesy is over your head, so keep on paywalling!
