TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – A new study conducted by a Clark University professor on the impacts of the state’s Parental Rights in Education Act reported that a sizeable 40% of Florida parents want to flee the state.

The research, making the rounds in news reports, oversamples Democrats in comparison to Republicans by nearly 20%, overwhelmingly different than the true composition of Floridians by party affiliation.

The sample of 106 parents involved 42.2% identifying as Democrats, 28.3% as Independents, and only 24.5% as Republicans.

They also included two who identified as Green Party members, and three more as something else, involving Democratic Socialist, Neutral and “Registered Democrat but I vote both sides.”

For comparison, data from the Florida Department of State shows Florida being composed of 37.1% Republicans, 33.3% Democrats and 27.6% Independents.

Per their report, the study was primely composed of parents from Democratic counties like Broward and Orange.

The release of the report also falsely describes Florida’s parental rights law as the “Don’t Say Gay law.”

The bill was introduced in 2022 to apply to grades K-3, limiting classroom discussion on gender identity and sexual orientation.

It was expanded in 2023 by Florida lawmakers and Gov. Ron DeSantis to cover PreK-8th grade, but Florida Board of Education rules expand those restrictions through grade 12, with exceptions.

Of the sample, 20% “very much so” wanted to flee Florida, and 19% “somewhat.” 15% reportedly felt “mixed” about moving, and 45% did not want to move.

Additionally, 11% were “very likely to move in the next two years.”

The survey found that a third of participants disagreed with the original K-3 application of the law, while 46% disagree with applying it through 12th grade.

“They also voiced concern about a push towards fascism within their state and government overreach,” the report’s summary stated. “Participants who were against the Act largely agreed with the statement that it provoked hostility against the LGBTQ community.”

Christian Ziegler, the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, recently responded to opposers of the restrictions on sexual orientation and gender identity teachings for children potentially wanting to flee Florida.

“Over 60% of voters support the actual language in the law, including 55% of Democrats,” Ziegler said to the Washington Examiner. “With that said, if a Democrat Voter is passionate and perverted enough to support the sexualization of kids during school in grades as early as Kindergarten, then I would agree that Florida is probably not the best fit for them.”

A poll released in 2022 by the New York Times found the provisions of the law have strong support among the public.

The author of the study, Abbie E. Goldberg, Ph.D., is the director of Women’s & Gender Studies at her university. It was conducted March 22-24 and was published this month.

I think the average Floridan likes living in warm weather and sunshine and near the water and really does not give a shit who is Governor du jour.... most of what makes FL attractive to live existed before the last 3 Governors and will still exist so the media's attempt to tie shit to DeSantis becomes stretchy. His recent attempts to attack Disney and take on some fantasy woke and outtrump trump is killing his chances to be anything more and actually brings in the negative media attention......but definitely not moving the needle on why people live there IMHO as someone who goes there every year to visit family. Most of them could care less about ronnie and have been living there since the 1980s.

The media game of blame and credit is getting quite out of hand but to be expected in a political swamp we have now and leading into one ofthe worst elections in memory. Sadly Ronnie could have simply kept quiet and let the record of a state on autopilot propel him to the front like all Governor's do. trump's popularity must have given Ronnie the idea that he had to act that way to get votes but it only works for trump...he invented it. Also the dog whistle of CRT in VA helped win a Governor election so we have a sad road map for future candidates.

Texas and FL follow a similar path. Cities are blue and the rest is red but the population density outside the cities has grown so much that thsoe states are much firmer red states going forward. Dems keep pounding away at the city votes which is basiclaly preaching to the choir and ignores the red storm in the suburbs and rural areas. As usual... a college freshman can see what is going on while Dems have their head up their asses.

GOP was winning Texas by 20-30 points as recently as the bush years, now its consistently single digits (Trump won it by just 5).Like AZ and GA it will eventually turn blue. The state GOP has already started the voter suppression tactics that wasn't necessary 20 years ago.

It can turn blue if Dems move out from campaigning the cities and go after the rest of the state. Houston and Dallas and San Antonio are not going to get much bigger but withthe cost of living in cities growing and technology making it easier to work anywhere, Dems need to put an ear to the issues affecting those citizens and address them in an election and TX turns blue and FL turns blue. Dems keep pushing a one track mind. If there was no COVID, trump wins a 2nd term despite all his other fuck ups.

The outside the cities populatiojn in TX and FL care about economy, jobs, immigration and their schools.... dems campaigning on these issues since 2015 has been shit and allowed trump to speak and lie his way in.

Just another day in DeSantis' Florida... Elderly people in nursing homes in Florida have started dropping like flies.... soon the death rate from nursing homes in Florida will exceed New York's.

This prediction by the NPC - never happened. Of course.

Bush won TX by 23 points,Trump won it by 5.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson won TX by 33 points,Ted Cruz won it by 4.

Dems are doing something right.

This will fizzle into nothing when DeSantis drops the matter --- after the Disney lawyers educate him in reality.

I remember when the NPC told us how the Disney lawyers would educate DeSantis and the whole Ready Creek issue would fizzle to nothing from it. How'd that end?

well in general it fizzled since DeSantis moved on really.... also Disney snuck in a motion before control handed over so both sides can preten to claim victory but in reality neither side changed anything.. desantis is selling his books saying he took on Disney and disney still doing what it wants ha ha :). WIn win.

What is interesting is the lawsuit against ronnie for punitive legislation in response to free speech. Whichever way the courts decide this will bite ronnie or the GOP in the ass.
