They are number 27. You are correct, nothing special either way. It has never been my argument that they are special in this regard. It has, however, been my argument that if DeSantis was so bad a governor and mishandled COVID in the state that they would have been much, much worse.

Considering Florida has had no mask mandate, and has been open since June of last year, this is an amazing number. That is, if those things mattered.

And how is that affecting its death per 1M pop? Its cases per 1M pop? Its outstanding death per 100 nursing home residents or cases per 100 residents?

Shouldn't we be dying in droves here ?

The state has the highest % tourism in the nation, and we have been open for business for a long time. I'd expect this. But where's the bad?

So this interminable thread was a response to previous criticism of DeSantis' policy, along the lines you mention? Because the title does say, "for the win", and that part is not evident; covid driven job loss in FL is average, too.

But that's why I asked where Florida is going wrong. If they have such a horrible governor, then something should be horrible about the COVID results, right? If it is money per capita being spent on "dramatic medical intervention" then this should be evident as well. Is it?

Sure there is evidence we can find to point to how DeSantis has botched the COVID response that is so very obvious, given how bad the guy supposedly is.

While DeSantis is right that Florida has better mortality stats than the states he mentions, saying Congress bailed out these states at the expense of the Florida taxpayers is misleading - Florida was a state that got some of the most money in the stimulus bill. Though on a % share it did not (as the third most populous state).
