“National and state-level ensemble forecasts suggest that the number of new deaths over the next 4 weeks will likely exceed the number reported over the last 4 weeks for the US overall, as well as in 25 states and 1 territory,” the CDC wrote in its latest coronavirus report, available here. The states it’s most worried about seeing a spike in deaths include:
  • Alabama
  • Florida

Thanks for the link to the data. Should help keep the pissing cows on point in the debate.

Right, but none of those sources says anything about NH deaths being at 20% in NY. Or is there some place I didn't see it in those articles?

Yes... it is clearly written in the article in the first link in the post.... it includes a link to the Kaiser information with nursing home death rates from every state.

Let's post the start of the article (once again) so it is obvious...

Covid-19 brutal on NY long-term care facilities; nationwide, it's worse
https://buffalonews.com/business/lo...cle_739b408b-5d34-5b8d-be83-124047368d2b.html

Covid-19 has been brutal to the people in New York's nursing homes and adult care facilities. Yet in many other states, nursing home fatalities are swelling the death toll by even greater percentages. In New York, roughly one of every five confirmed or presumed Covid-19 deaths, or 20%, occurred in a nursing home or an adult care facility.

Let's post the Florida information once again so it is obvious.

More than half of Florida’s coronavirus deaths linked to long-term care facilities

There have been more than 3,000 coronavirus-related deaths in Florida and, according to state data, just over half of those deaths are linked to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

I see it now. 20 % of the deaths were in NH facilities in New York, but unfortunately the number of deaths is double the amount in Florida at this point.

So while the percent may be higher, the number of people died is way higher in NY. I know you're hoping for more deaths in Florida so you may eventually be right on this. Cross your fingers.

Another good statistic to look at is the # of deaths per 10,000 NH residents. As Florida has a lot more nursing homes. When you do that, NY is horrid.

But admittedly, this isn't as good for Fear Porn advocates like yourself.

So tell me is DeSantis allowing visitors into nursing homes a good step in reducing COVID-19 deaths in the nursing homes in Florida?

Florida is expected to exceed the total number of nursing home deaths in a matter of weeks. Is having DeSantis speed it along helpful?

DeSantis' plan to allow nursing home visitors is simply another example of a poor policy -- on top of his previous policies to allow employees, state officials and contractors into nursing homes without any screening or temperature checking.
