DeSantis for the win

6/29 update (yesterday's data)

Daily Deaths still low. Liberals and DeSantis haters biting pillows and shrieking more people aren't dead yet.

Uh oh...showing a daily drop in the new case number. I hope that doesn't continue or else people hating on Florida and DeSantis will have to find another number to trumpet (sorry for using the word trumpet - hope that doesn't trigger people hating on the first 5 letters). Never fear - they'll find something.

Please note Florida Dashboard data not used in first source as it would be met with "DeSantis is forging all the data" hilarity.

But here is the data, with case counts.

Because I will present ALL data available regardless of whether it is data I like ...

Infection rate still not good. A number above 1 indicates the virus is spreading and more case growth will be seen (likely).

View attachment 232034

Also not good - the positive test rate continues to grow. Some of this is due to increased testing, some of it is due to the virus spreading quickly. Hard to tell accurately how much is due to what, but as long as this number remains elevated and continues to grow, it aint a good thing.

ICU Headroom continues to grow as well, but this is a bit misleading because COVID patients are being put in ICU states regardless of whether they need ICU services at this point due to a lack of anywhere else sufficient to put them (like a communicable disease ward that isn't available in many locations). If ICU space was truly needed, some of these beds could be freed up.

Trend of future hospitalizations. Please note Florida is not estimated to use up its bed availability (which was the whole "flatten the curve" cry) in the next 30 day window.

And this last one is for posterity. This is the current estimation of deaths and infection rates. I put this one here because it is saying deaths will rise 7 fold by the end of the month.

View attachment 232037

Deaths are currently at 3447.

So you still are unable to explain why the Florida portal from the DeSantis Administration shows under 10 deaths while the other chart shows over 25 deaths on the same most recent day.

Your assertion patients are being put in ICU even if they don't need ICU services is also completely off. There are clear medical entry criteria for placing a patient in ICU.

I've explained it several times. Not my fault you don't like the explanation.

But hey put some more posts in bold type to make your point.

There are at least 2 things we need to start seeing from the data to make it more useful to the viewer. .

1. We need to know if the people testing positive are new test takers or are we retesting those who are positive.

2. I would like to see each chart confirm they are not including antibody tests.

3. I think it time we start looking at the "excess" deaths chart. I know its morbid.. but as this crisis goes on we really need to know if a lot more people are dying than usual or if they are dying a few months earlier on average. If the average age of death comes down than this stat will become less important but this stat should still be available.

Deaths rate this year is up 1.23 percent over 2019. However it's been on the rise every year since 2008. For example, 2019 was 1.12 percent higher than 2018 with no virus. The reason for the increasing death rate is the advancing age of our population and the lower birth rate overall resulting in fewer young people to figure into the equation. I suspect that there are very few excess deaths due to Kung Flu, and we've got a big overreaction going on.

Spike in the number of deaths for today - as you can see there is a "spike" every seven days with this source as there seems to be some method of truing up the data on a weekly basis. Still, the trend is no worse than it was at any time in the crisis despite the fact that cases are much higher. People just aren't dying from the virus - which is a good thing.

New cases, while higher than yesterday, still show decline from recent trend. Still too early to tell if this is a good development or not.

Future hospitalizations is now trended considerably lower than yesterday's post based on current hospitalization rate (this was revised overnight). This is a very good thing. Unless you're looking for doom and gloom or want to blame DeSantis for something, of course. Then it is a bad thing.

Please also note that the predicted outcomes for 30 days from now has taken a dramatic turn for the better, with the estimate now showing 15,000 deaths as opposed to 26,000 deaths just yesterday.

Must be more of that "adaptive modeling" at work. I knew there was no way deaths would rise by the end of the month to 26,000. I still think the current estimate of 15,000 is ridiculous. But we will see if it continues to "be adjusted".

Deaths are currently at 3505, ranking Florida #9 in the state list. For perspective, a little more than this die every month of every year from Cancer in Florida alone.

But hey, Trump is a criminal, DeSantis is a moron and I am a member of a cult of fanbois that doesn't know anything. I just wanted to state all that to pre-empt the inevitable "scientific" response to my data. You know, to make it easy on the trolls. Oh yeah, and we're all racist.

DeSantis - "We don't need no education"

With a veto, DeSantis shuts down Florida's online learning platform as pandemic infections soar

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/20...learning-platform-as-pandemic-infections-soar

Florida continues to be a coronavirus clusterf--k, due in large part to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis apparently following the we can't close the beaches, it's prime tourist season school of governance. His latest move, however, is so bizarre that it has other state leaders wondering if he did it by accident.

For reasons apparent to nobody, DeSantis vetoed the entire near-$30-million budget of the state online education systems being used by Florida students to complete online high school and college courses. The Complete Florida Plus Program will cease to exist as of midnight tonight, and the site will be shut down.

As Politico reports, DeSantis' veto came out of nowhere, "leading some higher education officials to wonder if there had been some sort of mistake." Did DeSantis intend to scuttle the state's entire online learning program in the middle of a pandemic now spiraling out of control in his state?

From the refusals of anyone around DeSantis to provide an explanation, it doesn't seem to be an error. DeSantis just wants to end the state's distance learning program, which will be shut down at midnight. Because DeSantis wants it to be … during a pandemic. A pandemic that makes distance learning the only practical means of continuing an education, as DeSantis' previous bungles send Florida COVID-19 cases spiraling.

With, so far, no explanation or recourse.
