DeSantis for the win

I have followed the nursing home situation in Michigan. At this point in time - the prosecutor in Michigan pushing that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer should be prosecuted is a same Republican character who was pushing to remove her from office earlier. The claims about Michigan hiding nursing home deaths made in The Federalist article are questionable and have been refuted by local media in the state who provide a factual accounting of events related to nursing home orders. I will wait to see how the Mackinac Center Legal Foundation's lawsuit to require the MDHHS to comply with a Freedom of Information Act request to release data on nursing homes turns out -- according to local media most of the information was released over time previously. I will wait and see how this situation turns out -- if it turns out the governor of Michigan is hiding COVID data then I will criticize her in he same manner I have criticized DeSantis and Cuomo.

I'm not saying she's guilty of anything, and I've been careful not to say Cuomo is guilty of anything either.

All I'm saying is that if the right opponents and media marshaled their resources and dug into any governor's handling of the COVID crisis and data, I'm sure they'd find anomalies. This isn't fraud necessarily.

Government is inept. That's just the way it is.

Let's see what Bloomberg news has to say about the upcoming deaths in Florida rather than listening to a DeSantis backer on FOX parrot the governor's line while pushing that the current Florida CFR is only 1.5%.

Florida’s Covid-19 Deaths Might Rival New York's
The state’s daily fatality count could hit 600 in a few weeks.

Never even came close.

New record today. That's how viruses work when they run amok. Saw a stat today that in the last two weeks Florida has more infection cases then Canada has in the entire year. It hardly matter if one of the experts has bad forecasts. Numerous medical experts said 4-5 weeks ago that the increased infection rates would very likely lead to higher death rates in 3-4 weeks. Roughly speaking, the daily deaths have doubled now. Not sure how high they have to be for it to be a concern for you, but numerous hospitals said they were struggling prior to today.

Yeah, another one of Nine Ender's posts that aged well.

In a few months, it will be clear if our slower staged approach worked out or not ( majority of Ontario goes to level 3 Friday ). We will likely have some increased counts. Final tally will be instructive.

Wonder why Florida became the world epicenter for coronavirus. You would think that an effective governor would takes steps to control this...

(Narrator voice) But sadly, GWB didn't quite understand how viruses work, and regretted making such a post back in July when the rest of the country exploded with its second wave after Florida had gotten theirs.

Bottom line Florida is a mess by any definition, and fixing the problem requires decisive correct actions NOW not politics and debate. I asked two months ago why Canada's numbers were so much better then US numbers. It's gotten worse since. Yesterday, 1100 Americans died from Covid and in Canada 4. My opinion, there were lessons to be learned from Canada and some other American states two months ago that could have greatly reduced your current numbers. What I see now is surely but surely Americans are coming around to those realities. It's 6-7 weeks late imo but better late then never.

Disparities like 1100 to 4 ( or 36 prorated by population ) are very significant.

This thread is a treasure trove of fun. Please see below on the chart (the arrow) for when Nine Ender made this comparison.

Just another day in DeSantis' Florida... Elderly people in nursing homes in Florida have started dropping like flies.... soon the death rate from nursing homes in Florida will exceed New York's.

Oh yeah, any day now. If New York's death rate for NH residents was New York, then Florida got as close as Saturn.
