Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) hinted at a potential 2024 presidential bid by Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during a Fox News appearance on Sunday.

The Florida congressman's comments followed a Fox interview on the same day with DeSantis, who accused President Joe Biden of "targeting" his state for its "thriving" housing sector and economy.

The governor's criticism was aimed at Biden Administration officials considering pre-flight testing and domestic air travel restrictions because of the COVID pandemic.

Gaetz, a Republican who represents Florida's 1st district, said he is "proud" of DeSantis and implied the Biden Administration is attempting to disparage the governor in anticipation of his potential candidacy in 2024.

"What Ron DeSantis didn't say, which is the truth, is that the Biden folks know that if Donald Trump is not the candidate in 2024, the leader of our movement will be Ron DeSantis," Gaetz told Fox.

"He is a strong potential presidential candidate in 2024, the Biden team knows that, and so they're trying to somehow cast aspersions on the Florida experience because you know what, throughout America, there's a lot of Florida envy right now."

He's clearly being pushed as a potential. I have no idea if he has a prayer with the machine and the Narrative against him, and part of me doesn't want him to leave Florida! But you can see the positioning going that way on the ground. Expect attacks from the media and its lapdogs (re: people like you) to intensify. In fact, the more they intensify the more we will know he is on the right path.

As for the "next Trump", this is just silly. The guy is far more charismatic and amiable than Trump, and not a loose cannon. Someone the GOP can get behind. And if he has to run against a Biden or a Harris, it should be relatively contrast.

Well coupled with a thin-skin that does not accept any criticism, a focus on his personal alternate reality, the rejection of facts & hiding of data that supports the truth, firing & attacks on anyone who disputes him, a lukewarm IQ, with a narcissistic tendency ..... yeah DeSantis has many of the aspects of Trump -- except he lacks the necessary bluster, trolling ability, and inability to build a true following among a crowd of raving Trump supporters.

As a "mainstream" GOP candidate he might have a chance... but the GOP is now all about Trump... there would need to be a significant shift to bring it back to traditional Republican ideals at this point. As a "mainstream" Republican candidate DeSantis would hardly stand out among a crowd of very similar politicians -- many of the others have much longer political careers and better connections.

The funny point about all of this.... is that any candidate being pushed as a potential 2024 candidate for President at this point -- is just opening up for being a target for brutal attacks from Trump. At this point, Trump believes anyone pimped as running in 2024 is pissing on his lawn.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Sunday dismissed the growing number of COVID-19 cases in his state that have been attributed to a highly-infectious new mutation.

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo asked the governor about prominence of new COVID-19 strains in Florida.

"Nearly 350 cases of the dangerous COVID variant have been reported in Florida," Bartiromo pointed out. "Is there a reason for concern here?"

"So first off, we obviously look at all the data that comes in," DeSantis replied. "But this strain is in blue states and they don't talk about doing anything with blue states."

"So we find more than probably some other states do," he admitted. "It would be very odd to do a draconian travel restriction, which had no basis in the Constitution, at a time when all of these indicators are going down."

Florida's Department of Health has reportedly refused to share data about the number of COVID variants found in the state.

Just DeSantis pushing his own alternate reality once again. Let's look at the facts...

Florida is the WORST state statistically with the new COVID variants. Florida accounts for more than a third of all cases in the country of the B-117 variant, the highly infectious so-called UK strain. The levels are much higher in Florida than any other state in the U.S.

Of course as noted in the quoted post - DeSantis' administration in Florida has once again refused to share the COVID data on new strains -- attempting to minimize the reality of the situation in Florida.
 
This guy DeSantis looks like the kind of guy who would lose the 2024 election no matter whom he was running against. He just has that look to him. I hope he isn't what the Republicans come up with in 2024. :(

First, please provide the data that shows all states with infections from the magical, mystical, deadly B-117 variant so we can see just how "bad" Florida is.

Second, do you have mortality data on the catastrophical, end-of-the-world B-117 variant? I'm assuming that it is more deadly, right?

Third, because Florida is a tourist state, I'm sure it has all sorts of variants from people traveling in. However, unless people are dying more from it (they aren't), then who gives a shit?
