Its very unlikely to be depressed if trader makes money with consistency. Its an accomplishment and success does not bring depression, consistency is associated with uniqueness.Surroundings have very little influence its a state of mind.
Now gambling is definitive cause of depression, brings inner insecurity.
It comes back to consistency without which even making money can be perceived as gambling.
Experience of gambling in the past can also cause depression, taken risk with negative outcome will not go away and will be obstacle to happiness in the future even more so if it repeated itself and how often.
It is underestimated how crucial it is from the beginning to protect oneself from this experience.
I read so many comments on this forum "to trade you need to open account and put money i it and actually trade to understand psychological impact of it".Nothing further from the truth!
Every time trader enters a trade without a thought out plan and confidence its like a curtain goes down on him. This negative outcome will blurr process that is needed to find a solution.
Does not matter if it takes even ten years to build something and understand it.In the porcess of doing that its critical not to end up being wounded "animal".
This could be sole reason why only very few get to the finish line and find that consistency,to find it dose of purity is required, setbacks, losses of money saved up for this endeavour are like needle jabbed into human tissue in the same spot.It is no good to end up psychologicaly damaged like a proverbial whore standing outside of Lincoln Tunnel.
Its all about the future, regardless how today may look
I always look with curiosity how some high level ss members lived to their 80's and longer and same thing with survivors of concentration camps,i think this has something to do with the fact they all felt distinctive, unique about themselves.
In trading consistency is the hardest part and its unique (and this is different to money made from "gambling") is the inner desire of some who venture into this field
