I wouldn't trust Shadow stats either. That guy has fantasies about having sex wearing tin foil

While John Williams is a hyperinflation conspiracy type... I believe his stats are closer to the actual.

When oil hits $15 he will be talking about how inflation ex-food and energy is soaring :p

Prosperity is just around the corner though! [for public sector workers, forget the private sector, it's being treated like an ugly step child currently]

umemployment is only 8.1%. You guys are full of it.

No. This is just those filing. The figure for long term unemployed, discouraged, etc could be (and almost certainly is) higher.

Looking inside the numbers, the economy isn't that bad if your not a piker.

High school graduates, no college unemployment rate 9.6%

Bachelor's degree and higher unemployment rate 4.2%

Gnome....

When we reach THE bottom, (2014-2016?) we're going to find an unemployment rate of 20-ish percent... THERE WON'T BE ENOUGH JOBS TO GO AROUND... what's to be done about that... ?????

.....................................................................................

The Obama platform is one that would usually happen when there is a lot of "fat" in the system....

To implemet "higher taxes" and "anti business policies" is truly telling not only about Obama....but about the whole Obama staff....

I would suspect that there will be some similarity to some of the developing countries....If you have the right color political card in your wallet....you may get on the government payroll....where efficiency is nowhere to be found....and your job title could be most anything....with or without experience....you give your vote....you get some type of government job....which you may or may not be qualified to do....

The next phase is that the government becomes the only money game in town.....getting revenue from taxes on essentials....

At the tipping point for a "failed state" status....

Government corruption becomes sureal....

At the moment...the most stable employment stat is in the govt. sector....

ie....10 people poorly paid on payroll where only one is actually needed....and this is no joke in the developing countries where unemployment of 17% is normal....which is also a massaged number....17=30 etc....This is why the developing world elections can become so spirited....The right color political card gets the jobs....and if there is a transition....it takes time for government operations to start to run smoothly because everybody is new on the job.....and may never run smoothly....

A question, where are you getting your tax facts from? Obama's just proposed a 2010 budget includes over a trillion dollars of NET income tax decreases, not increases. The bush tax cuts don't expire until late 2010. It remains to be seem whether there will be a net increase or decrease for 2011, but income tax decreases for the vast majority of US citizens are expected to carry over into 2011. I just don't understand what this tax "increase" talk is all about because it flies in the face of reality. On the other hand, if you want to talk about an increase in indirect taxation via inflation than you may be closer to the truth.

I'm sure MBAs account for 4% of that 4.2%.
