Depiction of the Christian struggle

Quote from colonelangus:

Nice OP viddie, but it does seem a stretch to assume that just because someone wants a beer on an odd night, it is necessary to seek spiritual counseling. I am not promoting alcoholism as a means to the soul's salvation but you may recall that the Eucharist has traditionally included alcoholic wine and Trappist monks actually brew beer so it could be considered a little hypocritical to condemn someone for drinking the stuff.
On the Americans' motivation regarding the question, "why do you drink beer" and their supposed disgust with their saviors, IMO, it is not beyond the realms of possibility for a somewhat closed minded born again Christian to be a bit overzealous with pointing their self righteous finger at the countless SINNERS of the world. In this case, the person posting his Barcelona experience seemed like he was genuinely playing "the good Samaritan" helping the baffled Americans and with that, perhaps just offering a little more of what most people in Western society consider "fun" on a concert night.
Just another possible interpretation :D

You make a good point...but I think we can really tell the guy with the barcelona story was probably embelishing it quite a bit and if the Christians were here, im sure we would hear a completely different account of what happened. Often its hard for a Christian to share their faith so they sometimes need springboards to jump off of. This case being the subject of beer. I wasnt there, so I cant say whether these Christians were trying to self exalt themselves, but since they were offering him something (to come to their church, find God, ect) I do not believe they were trying to self-exalt themselves. But unfortunately, most non-believers see Christians as ONLY trying to exalt themselves which is very rarely the case.

If you truly believe someone is going to hell for thier sins, then you meet someone, and they are nice to you and you DONT tell them about the gospel, thats a pretty bad thing.

Imagine it this way. Imagine that he invited the Christians into the bar. Say the Christians somehow knew there was a man with a gun in there that was going to start shooting people, so the Christian said they didnt want to go in, but didnt tell that guy that there was a shooter in there. That would be pretty messed up wouldnt it.

I also wonder why the guy had his "night ruined" If he truly didnt think there was anything wrong with drinking and smoking...why would this upset him?

You see...this happened to me once too before I became Christian. Lets just say I was doing something I shouldnt have been doing and the Christian said something that although he didnt say it harshly...it definately "ruined my night" It ruined my night because i knew somewhere deep in my soul he was right and i really did not want to believe it. In these situations what usually happens is you either point the finger back at the Christian, or you just write them off as some "nutjob", or you just straight out say that the bible is not true so there is nothing to worry about.

It took years for me to realize how right he was.

Quote from number22:

Any of your religious nutcase should read Christopher Hitchens 's God is not Great; how religion poisons everything.

As you said, you "believe in" what he said. When did he die and become the Führer ??? His credentials? Has he disproved that God exists, or is his book basically based on his compilation of people who agree wit In debate, there are two sides. When you label the other as "nutcases" and offer your own opinions instead of universal and exhaustive proof, then the nutcase is in your mirror.

Stop worrying about other how they're living their life.

And here you are, worrying about how "religious nutcases" live their lives.

Churchs and states should be 1000 yards away from each other.

but the state force feeds a steady diet of liberal views, evolution and other views on conservative muslims, christians, and jews, through primary, secondary and state-supported universities. I have friends who were told "you cannot talk about religion or God in your papers". But everything else is fine? What happened to democracy again??? This is called Fascism.

The state decides that 1 minute after birth, killing a baby is murder and 1 minute before, it is abortion. If someone shoots a mother and the baby dies, you get a headline "Mother, fetus slain"
http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-1327072.html But if a doctor kills the fetus, it is "abortion."

We spend perhaps a million dollars to keep alive a "preemie" who is 5 months old, and perhaps a couple hundred bucks to toss a 5 month old "fetus" into the trash can.

So if people rail against 1+ million murders a year, they are nut cases. But kill the elderly or sick it is "euthenasia." And kill existing citizens it is called murder.

Funny how it is only unfair when it is perceived as the "other direction."

What I hate the most is Town Hall meeting with people standing there saying Christan value build our towns/nations, blah blah, blah, and prayers stuffs during city hall meeting, Sicking and Boring.

Not quite" as bad as other "people" telling them they should not have beliefs or views; their opponents having decided that their viewpoint is superior/better, based on that they "hate" their views. But everyone else is fine and MAY have views. THAT is not hated...

But, you are an exceptionally angry, self-righteous person. Amazing for someone who likely considers himself intellectual and better than those who are "poisoned." Maybe we should send religious people to the gas chambers. Then you won't have to see their "sickening" and "boring" while your enlightened and exciting views prevail.

But everyone can see Christians exalting a myth which is often the case.

If you truly believe someone is going to hell for their sins .....you may have some form of delusion or psychosis. That's a pretty bad thing. Would you possibly be better keeping that kind of thing to yourself, unless maybe a doctor is being nice to you?

Yes but a real gun is not the same as an imaginary God.

Perhaps being preached at is not everyone's idea of a good night out.

Had it been a human cannon ball who had said something "deep in your soul" you knew was right to ruin your night, would you have joined the circus?
Surely what is right is right.
Once realized and whosoever may have said it, right is right for its own sake and as such beholden to nothing or no one. Isn't it?
