The Department of Homeland Security wants a private company to provide a national license-plate tracking system that would give the agency access to vast amounts of information from commercial and law enforcement tag readers, according to a government proposal that does not specify what privacy safeguards would be put in place.

If police vehicles have plate tracking technology all the NSA has to do is have backdoors in it. Once that is in place a couple of engineers could write the software to fill data into the database.

Agreed. And for those of you who don't know, these are usually located on the trunk lid of a cruiser. They look like some external radar units, but they're not. They're plate readers. Two of them on the trunk lid are the norm. These were no where near when I was a Trooper, but the state I worked in has been using them on some State Police cruisers for a few years. Pretty scary knowing this tyrannical gubment could use these for their communism. We all know they'd be used for dirty, political snooping against those evil bastards who want FREEDOM, and to simply be left the fuck alone! Funny thing is I've not seen a single plate reader on cruisers in my part of Florida. Yet...
