Hello,
I am from Denver and currently trade stocks and currencies. I saw the forum and found it interesting and was wondering if any of these plans for group meetings took off or not (besides the Denver Trading Group)?

Also, does anyone know of some small mom & pop trading firms in Denver. I know someone mentioned there are some in Denver but I am having a hard time locating them so any information regarding general trading firms would be great.

Our first guest speaker for 2010 will be Larry Pesavento, a veteran trader of over 45 years. In his presentation, Larry will explain his methodology for trading and the rationale behind it. He will discuss his views on the stock and commodity markets, and the overall economy.

· The ratios of sacred geometry and the Fibonacci summation series

Larry Pesavento is a 45 year veteran trader. He began his career trading full time in 1967 while in graduate school getting an MBA in Finance following a BS in Pharmacy. He managed the commodities department of Drexel Burnham Lambert in Southern California from 1976 to 1981.

In 1982 he became a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange where he was a local in the S&Ps currency pits. Following this he worked for a commodity corporation in Princeton New Jersey from 1985 to 1986 and in 1987 he wrote “Astro Cycles: The Traders Viewpoint” and published a newsletter “Astro Cycles” until 1995.

Currently he resides in Tucson Arizona and has spent the last decade working on artificial intelligence, i.e. Neural networks and genetic algorithms, using this technology to develop an auto trading system.

He has one of the most extensive libraries on the subject of technical analysis and has trained over 1000 traders using the pattern recognition swing trading methodology described in his books. Over the past 25 years he has written 10 books on trading.

Not sure if this thread is still active but FWIW.

Denver isn't exactly a major "financial hub" so we have to make our own industry. Very few funds that I can find except for commodities.

I am in CO, I trade remotely and like the idea of a club/group trading thing. Also interested in grey/black box system development. Send me a pm if interested.
 
I know this is an old thread, but maybe we can renew it for people who are still here or new to the area. I'm interested in getting to know some traders around the Denver/Boulder area. I'm an MBA student at CU and active futures trader and would like to hear about your experiences. If you want to grab a cup of coffee, a pint, or hit some golf balls, let me know!

Denver is void of much trader activity probably due to being a "small" city and light in the financial industry. Even the local trading club seems pretty quiet. Just not a lot going on here.

Just for the sake of meeting with like minded folks and not paying a fee to do so I would be open to exploring ways to bring the trading community together.
 
I've been to a few meetup groups, and while that does allow for meeting other traders, those types of gatherings are usually more "beginner-oriented". I would find it more useful to talk about more abstract topics that apply to everyone's trading (after one has been trading for a few years): psychological challenges, when to bend the rules, personal goals, trading OPM, etc.

In that way, it would be nice to get together with others who "are doing it" instead of "would like to learn how to do it" ... so that I could start a meaningful conversation using phrases like "order flow" and "got filled at the bid" without getting a blank stare back at me.

I live and breathe this stuff, I'm looking at charts, analyzing, reading articles, all day every day, and so it would be cool to find others with the same obsession as opposed to hobbyists who dabble in it for an hour or two every few days.

I'm not trying to have a NYC-style pissing contest of who can order the most expensive bottle of wine or who wears the best suit, I just want something casual with not-beginners. Something where, if we go get a beer and start a conversation with "what have you noticed about the markets lately" it may seem boring or nerdy to those at the next table but exciting to those in the conversation.

We could start with just us and maybe pick up a lurker or two and go from there.

A newbie here, working my day job and learning Fx. I'd be interested and willing to organize something small in the Metro area (I live in Centennial). I echo that there isn't much in the area that I have found that is up to date.
