Dems Just Took Control of the House

This should be fun - Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Adam Schiff, and Elijah Cummings running things over at the House. The best and the brightest. Very high entertainment value !

The New York Times projects a national popular vote margin of roughly 8.5% for the Democrats. The FiveThirtyEight average for the generic congressional ballot gave Democrats a 8.7% lead.

Sam Wang notes the popular vote margin in the last four midterm elections which were considered wave elections:

  • 1994: R+7.1%
  • 2006: D+8.0%
  • 2010: R+7.2%
  • 2014: R+5.7%
By historical standards, that would be a wave election for the Democrats.

I’m not hearing the term “blue wave” being thrown around at MSNBC or CNN. I’m not seeing the term being used on Politico, The Hill, or Roll Call. And last time I checked the popular vote was only relevant to district races. If Nancy Pelosi won, literally, every vote in her district it wouldn’t change a thing nationally. The Republicans have a problem with Suburban Women and the Democrats have a problem with rural voters.

The Democrats has a 91% chance of winning the House in the latest surveys. They managed to win the house by a small number of seats. Their performance in terms of taking the house by a tiny margin is a significant under performance historically.

Meh. Dems took the House by more than 9% of the vote. The losses were ebbed due to gerrymandering.

I know you guys think republicans and Trump have the will of the people behind them but they don’t. All the power of republicans at the federal level is a minority of the people. This is why republicans having all branches of the government didn’t work.

Basic political science, you cannot govern a democracy without the support of the majority of the people.

We are in a much better position with democrats holding the House and with all the new dem Governors and flipped state houses our federal government will dramatically improve with better congressional districts after the 2020 census.

You underestimate these people but they all are very capable of running a government successfully.

Honestly, who was a more effective speaker, Pelosi or Ryan?

Was Gawdy any good at investigations or do you think Schiff will be?
