Take a look at www.electoral-vote.com to get a visual count of how this works out. (you have to click on the general election link) It is updated every day with the release of new polls for each state. It is non partisan. Shows Mac well ahead, and many of the polls were before the Wright thing.

Bingo. Very uphill climb for Obama. McCain just needs to avoid mistakes to win.

There is another factor here that people are not focusing on. Hillary's supporters and the Clinton machine are history if Obama is elected. If Obama loses, Hillary would be young enough for another try in 2012. She and her supporters have every incentive to stay in the race and do everything possible to weaken Obama, short of appearing disloyal. There is no way Gore gets in the race this year, but he is no doubt making the same calculation.

Yes, that's the general idea: win the war and secure a free, democratic Iraq for many years to come. Hey you left out Vietnam. I notice all the generals in this current war who retire come out and say its unwinnable. In due time, General Petraeus wil retire and tell everyone what we already know, it was an unwinnable war.

There has been conflict in the Middle East for years now and you expect the Americans to solve it? You ever read anything about what the Saudi's say about Maliki? They're not helping out because they believe he's an Iranian agent. Ever wonder why Maliki doesn't go after Sadr? They're on the same side.

Maliki requested a ceasefire from Sadr in Basra yet Mr. Magoo can't seem to understand what went on there. McCain was asked if the Basra campaign had backfired, he said: “Apparently it was Sadr who asked for the ceasefire, declared a ceasefire. It wasn’t Maliki. Very rarely do I see the winning side declare a ceasefire. So we’ll see.’’

Mr. Magoo must be developing a rapid case of Alzheimer's if he can't see whats going on in the only area he claims to have experience and knowledge of.

Well, Vietnam was a Democrat-originated war that we fought badly and abandoned midstream, causing the country to collapse and millions to die. That's what McCain is trying to avoid here.

Yes, the Middle East has had conflict for ages but that doesn't mean we should run from it, we have far too many friends and vital interests in the area. We need to solve the problem, once and fo all. After all, we are not French, at least, McCain is not, are you?

Iraqi politics are very complicated and I won't comment. Half our generals say it this way and the other half the other way, they are human and not responsible for American foreign policy. Everybody in Iraq seems to be mortal enemy and best friend with every one else, what are you going to do? But we should help the elected Government of that free country secure the peace they need to calm down, that's all McCain is saying.
