Most people don't wear masks for many months.....I have spoken to people in Texas and the South and mid west and masks are seen as a silly nuisance yet cases keep going up...
Ah. So it is your theory that the CDC said N95 masks (which are the only masks actually effective) were not effective because people didn't know how to properly use them, but that bandanas, baklavas, wash clothes and other stylistic masks people wear to feel better actually DO work (despite being less than effective vis a vis an N95) and this was kind of a "we're just kidding, they actually are effective!" head fake from the CDC?
Be careful you don't sprain a muscle with all these gymnastics in order to justify what is obvious folly to anyone not thoroughly brainwashed.
debatable:

The truth about face masks and the coronavirus: Wearing masks in crowded places may help reduce the spread, but it isn't a perfect solution
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention "does not currently recommend the use of face masks for the general public," the agency said, again and again, on nearly daily briefing calls with reporters in late January and early February, as the coronavirus spread rapidly through China.
and the spin:
https://www.businessinsider.com/fau...cause-doctors-shortages-from-the-start-2020-6
Fauci said US government held off promoting face masks because it knew shortages were so bad that even doctors couldn't get enough
"Now we have masks, and we know that you don't need an N95 if you're an ordinary person in the street," he said. "We also know that simple cloth coverings that many people have can work as well as a mask in many cases."
and who can forget the Trumptard's tweet, aka CDC bossman, aka leading authority figure on health of the country:
I'm not arguing the effectiveness of masks and distancing, but it was blatantly obvious that the health agencies were being jawboned by the WH to put out a narrative to anyone who was paying attention; I mean, they still are getting their arm twisted on the numbers. It's why I started listening to other countries' agencies myself instead. The mask advise did appear to be strategic initially but could as well have been spin from having pushed misinformation earlier.Well if 100 people are wearing masks but they are all on top of each other at a gathering shoulder to shoulder then masks reduce risks but the measure is overridden by the close proximity of people for prolonged periods of times. Passing people in the grocery is not the same as being shoulder to shoulder in protests, rallies, family gatherings etc..
Stop with the N95 nonsense. I got the COVID in first week of Feb, before it was a thing. The most acute side-effect was a blocked eustachian tube in my left ear for three months. I visited the ENT four times during that period, with each visit spread apart by one month.
On the third visit, I asked the doc for a mask, since my 3M dust mask had shit the bed when the elastic bands broke a few days earlier. He slipped me one of their versions, the standard clinical "cotton" masks you see all the nurses wearing in a hospital setting, with the bungie-type ear-cords.
I still have it, and use it to this day whenever I go out. I have yet to be reinfected.
It greatly reduces your chances of getting Covid, together with safe distancing. The data is very clear on that. Denying something like that puts you in the same category as people who refused to use seat belts for many years. How 1950s of you ( again ).
wrong, a doubled up high thread count cotton cloth offers protection against the virus. If you're a gator wearing MAGAtard, then yes, you're doing it wrong.
As explained multiple times.... non-surgical masks stop outgoing transmission (over75% effective), they do very little in blocking the receipt of a virus (under 15% effective).
N95 masks are used to stop incoming particles. Proper use makes them effective for reducing the risk of a user from inhaling incoming viruses. Very useful in hospital environments.
There is no gymnastics involved - these are straight-forward facts
that is complete garbage when applied to real life.
1. produce the study.
2. if it was a generic laboratory test... masks are of different quality. I have found some masks block your breath so you inhale and exhale around the mask rather than though the mask..
So while a quality brand new mask may be useful for a surgeon... most of these crappy masks made in china are not filtering you breath. You are just breathing around them. (and they get dirty and that changes everything) And they get touched which is probably far worse for the spread of droplets.
So... there no proof surgical masks block the spread of covid... absent social distancing or warming weather.
3. Once the mask gets coughed on a few times by a sick person... all you data would have to change...
Once again dirty masks are dangerous.
If you have a new study which actually shows masks are preventing Covid... and not just meta studies... produce it.
Well -- if dirty cloth masks are a problem then use the paper toss-away masks. Like many people are doing already.
I will also note that states that implemented mask mandates saw significant drops in COVID cases after the mandate was instituted.
My GF works as a Dr at a children’s hospital and she wholeheartedly disagrees. Its a bullshit without data. The data showed Covid is not spread in playgrounds. But our asshole governor shut them down. Then when challenged...he opened them up.
You want people to follow rules...make rational rules and produce the data supporting your rules. We have power hungry assholes making rules for political reasons.
The reality is...the high risk should have been locked down...not the healthy. Now because of stupid rules which failed, we have to lock down again. Masks have not prevented this. we wear them.
