House Democrats propose Department of Peacebuilding

California Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee has introduced legislation to create a federal Department of Peacebuilding that would cultivate peace and take on the causes of violence and conflict.Lee’s legislation H.R. 808 “Department of Peacebuilding Act of 2013″ also would create a Cabinet-level Secretary of Peacebuilding focused on creating peace and preventing violence.

“This culture of violence that we live in is unacceptable,” Lee said in a statement her office distributed earlier this month. “On our streets and across the globe, the pervasive presence of violence has infected the lives of millions, and it is far past time we address it as a nation. We invest hundreds of billions each year in the Pentagon, in war colleges, military academies, and our national defense universities all to develop war tactics and strategies.”

The department would work with other agencies, sharing peace findings and assisting the international community in peace endeavors, including fostering conflict resolution initiatives.

The department would also create a four-year Peace Academy in the model of the military service academies, and offer grants and incentives for peacebuilding initiatives. The Secretary will also encourage Americans to observe and celebrate “Peace Days.”

The “Department of Peacebuilding Act of 2013” introduced Monday and Referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, currently has eight original co-sponsors, all Democratic.

I guess we won't be needing the Department of Defense any more. We'll just use the DOP (Dope) on our enemies. :D

And what ever happened to the Department of Business Obama wanted to create?

And that second stimulus package he wanted? Or did the Fed's $85 billion a month QE replace that?

Oh, wait. Here's an idea. Since the Sequester this year is exactly the same amount the Fed is going to pump into the economy this month maybe we should just have the Fed cut an extra $85 billion check so we don't have to lay off all the government employees like Obama says. :D

Provide violence prevention, conflict resolution skills and mediation to America's school children in classrooms as an elective or requirement, providing them with the communication tools they need to express themselves beginning in elementary school through high school.

Provide support and grants for violence prevention programs addressing domestic violence, gang violence, drug- and alcohol-related violence, and the like.

To effectively treat and dismantle gang psychology.

To rehabilitate the prison population.

Oh goodie...another class in school which has nothing to do with core subjects, like reading or math.

My daughter attends a pretty well funded suburban school district. Pisses me off, they pretty much require a study hall. This is a cop out, one hour of school time - no teaching expense. Seat warmers, all of them.

If she chooses desirable electives, photography, basic business, these types of classes , the rush is on, too many kids not enough slots the kids get stuck with another study hall.

I bitch to the counselors, if you give her 2 study halls, send her home early, I'll put her to work.

Many of the problems they think they can address by spending tons of money we don't have, were created by leftist policies of spending tons of money on programs that don't work to begin with.
