Dell Precision T3400

Wonder if anyone could help me finding my system. I do extensive daytrading and currently use an older Dell 8300 with a quad card supporting 4 monitors but it's getting tired and I have issues with it.
I want to order the T3400 with the two videocards but I have no idea what's the difference between the 375 Watt and the 525 Watt. Do I have any advantage on the 525 Watt?

Plan to order the Core®2 Duo E8200 (2.66GHz/1333MHz/6MB L2) and also wonder if there's any advantage of ordering the Core®2 Duo E6850 (3.00GHz/1333MHz/4MB L2) 375W instead.


Memory selected is 2GB, 800MHz, DDR2 SDRAM Memory, ECC (2 DIMMS).

Using TRAD and would really appreciate some help/input for a perfect workstation.

Oversizing your powersupply does not hurt. The powersupply is only drawing whatever power your computer needs.

It's always good to check out the owner's manual ahead of time on the Dell Support site. It has a TON of very useful info:

Notice that the 525 watt power supply comes with not one, not two, but THREE +12v rails and will support anywhere from 75w to 225w PCI-Express 16x graphics cards. (the system specs start on page #31).

Also notice that the memory at the 800-MHz speed is ONLY ECC DDR2-SDRAM.

Not sure why this is, but it seems to be in the owner's manual, and the only available option on the "configuration" page for the T3400 on the Dell Business website, as well.

Would appreciate if you could tell me if there's an issue with the 800-MHz ECC DDR2-SDRAM memory.

I'm no computer geek but several years ago I attended a TRAD seminar and the guy pointed out that TRAD is all about memory and less about processor speed.
On my current PC I'm having one gig only and I suspect that some problems I have in fast markets are memory issues so I would really appreciate your advice on what to look.

More...

Next time you are having "issues", check your TAsk Manager for memory usage and how much physical memory is still available. It's much more likely a software or resources problem than a memory issue.

There are absolutely no issues with ECC memory as opposed to Non-ECC memory as it relates to performance.

The only real "latency" that occurs is with "registered" or what is called "buffered" memory.

The Dell T3400 requires unbuffered memory so you don't even have to worry about this issue.
