So I have an older Dell PowerEdge 2900 and wasn't sure if it was worth much of anything. Anybody know anything about it? The hard drives have been removed due to sensitive information. It has the Xeon processor in it but I really don't know the details on it. I guess I probably need more info to know if it is worth anything.

Should be worth something, depending on the Xeon model and the amount of RAM.

Is it a tower or rackmount system?
It is a tower and looks identical to the one in that link. I will try to find out the amount of RAM and processor model. Since the hard drives are removed I can't just check under the "system" info in windows.
what is your Service Tag ? you can go to the following site and enter the tag there... the tag should be in the side/back or bottom of the case...

I have no clue really. I was debating on selling it or holding on to it until I find a use for it. My work doesn't need it anymore, we just switched to a new data center setup and don't have a use for this one anymore. My boss said I could have it if I took the hard drives out or if IT can completely clear the drives I can keep them. It's 4-73gb HD's. I will check with IT and see.

I can give you for free 2 x 1U servers with better specs than that... :
basically, it has no value ... I can buy new X3's that will be more powerful... for under $1K...
the question you should ask yourself is what do you want to get from it? you can use it to play around with platforms, and similar things... but it will suck a lot of power if you leave it on 24x7...
you can install windows 2012 on it, it will run... just use standard or foundation... you can also run linux or esx ... but again, what do you need is the question...
That answers the question on value. I didn't think it would be worth much with better options available for next to nothing. I really don't know what I would use it for. It just seemed like a good idea when my work said they had a PC and a server if anyone wanted it, I of course said SURE!
From a trading standpoint, I don't really have enough backtesting to do that I think it would be worthwhile to set it up for that. I can just do it on my laptop a little slower since it isn't a ton of data.
