Dell Outlet.... T3500 w/Xeon W3690... FAST.. $20

Nvidia says their cards are OK even to 80-90C.

NVS 295s won't work until you upgrade your monitors? What does that mean? Your monitors have DVI port, yes? Use the DVI-DP adapter.

Tick charts can take up a lot of CPU... especially if you're running more than 1 or 2. Suggest replacing your tick charts with 1-min charts.

I use tick charts, and I've had no trouble with the NVS295's I've got. I'm running only two tick charts though vs. some guys who run 10+

And btw, why oh why won't you call me when a deal on a W3690 Dell outlet setup is selling for what you found? :D

I check the site often, and am YET to find the deals you find.:( Btw, would the setup you found allow me to run 3 monitors by adding one NVS295?

Thanks - good to know I'm not close to the edge.

Interestingly, I've got a bunch of the adapters but none of them are compatible. On the male side of the adapter, there are 4 small pins around the 1/8' 'blade'. The female part of the adapter does not have those 4 pins ...

I actually do not like tick charts but I wanted to have the option to use them. With Ninja, I can use any chart I want without any issue. they are much better at CPU utilization than eSignal.

The issues running tick charts are not with the 295's (or probably any video card), the isuues are with CPU capacity. While tick and second-based charts are cpu-intensive by their nature, the combination of my older CPUs & eSignal's poor coding was a mismatch. With Ninja - no issues (but eSig still has some stuff that Ninja doesn't so I keep them both).

Scataphagos,

I recently purchased two refurbished t3500s (W3570). Does the bios need to be updated? Current BIOS is A01. What BIOS version should these have. The Dell support site does not report any updates based on service tag. Should the BIOS update be updated to A11? Thanks.

I just checked Dell support. They have a BIOS update to A13 as of 11/02/2011. I didn't use the Service Tag, just the model.

The good deals don't last long. I was surprised to see the W3690 again and it was soon gone.

Yes, you can run additional monitors with appropriate video cards. The T3500 has X58 chipset, 2, x16 slots, 2, x8s... from which you can run x1 cards if you want >4 monitors.

You can probably run 3 monitors now on your present rig by adding an additional video card.

You probably don't have Display Port adapters. Similar concept to HDMI, but shaped a bit differently. Here's an eBay link... these are at a good price, too.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HP-M-Di...149?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2560f2a315

With the DVI-DP adapter, max res is 1920x1200. If you have 30" monitors, you can go to 2560x1600 but you'll need DP cables and not use the adapters.

I just checked that link... "only 1 available" now... when I posted, he had "9 available"... hope it was you who got what you need...

If not, keep an eye out for that particular one. It's an HP and the one they use on their workstations. I have some of those myself and they've all tested as good. (Some of the adapters are more cheaply made... not sure how to tell the difference, but using the ones HP uses should mean you're getting good quality.)

There's a W3690 one available right now... it's $1839, but has a Quadro 5000 video card... which you could sell on eBay for about $1200.

If I were in the market for one, that's what I'd do.

Oops... gone. Hope you got it LEAP.

No, I have a few of these adapters (but not the HP type) but my monitors are VGA not DVI.
