OEM software is much cheaper than retail obviously. If you can't get it over the counter, you can have a computer shop just install a hardrive into your system and they will throw that OEM stuff on for you normally, including the Op system, Office suite, etc. Does anyone know how to get OEM software without having it installed by the computer seller legally?

Best Buy has a new "in house" brand they're calling VPR Matrix(value, performance, reliability). I just read a positive article about it in Fortune magazine. The only version they seem to sell on their web site is the "loaded" version, which is probably more than most people need. At $1900 w/o monitor, it's about $700 cheaper than Dell. Actually, I'm not sure what the Dell would cost because the VPR comes w/ 100GB RAID drives(dual hard drives acting as one), and I didn't see that as an option on the Dell. Has anyone by chance bought this? It looks like a good deal. Here's the link:

Computers are becoming way too powerful relative to potential applications.
Downloading songs, Divx etc... is another issue but with Verizon being ordered to divulge identities, I don't think this will be at issue anymore.

The only thing i can think of that would eat so much space is Video Editing and again compression is really good nowadays.
 
I have a Dell and a Gateway. Both function fine but there is a world of difference in tech support if you ever need it. Dell is the clear winner here. I have been looking at Dell's refurbished line of notebooks. Anyone have any experience with them on these?
 
I have one of their notebooks and I really like them. They are quality products and moreover their hardware will work under linux in most cases which is not always true of other vendors. Flexibility is key in choosing a Notebook.

This is correct. If a movie from a mini DV tape is captured into a computer, every hour takes about 13 GB of disk space. When performing digital editing, the temporary files and preview files may take up as much disk space as the original movie. That translates to about 26 GB per hour of video on the safe side. I am not sure, but I think DV format involves a 5:1 compression.

Hey Cheeks,
I'm long at 19.19. Can't say which way it's going to go - but I'm hoping for up! My stop is near break even now, so it shouldn't matter too much anyway.
