Was he under surveillance by the FBI? If so, Trump could easily declassify this info and confirm it - until then what you are suggesting is over the top speculation.

Secondly, Wikileaks have secure ways to communicate unlike dumbasses like Flynn, Manning released thousands of classified documents to Wikileaks and nobody knew till the leaks started.

But... at some point in time after it occurred they could have done a database search and found the communications.
