daytrade QQQ or NQ and use AAPL for signals?

AAPL is 21% of the Nasdaq 100 holdings. Does anyone use AAPL to trigger signals when daytrading QQQ or NQ?
 
Why not pair trade them?

This is a question, not a suggestion. I have no experience pair trading.

Short the top one, buy the bottom one. Sell when they meet. (I think that's how it works).
