THAT is the file that grows and grows over time, and that is the primary cause of the issue. But you cannot clear out that file. Bets thing to do is simply reset the DB file in the options section and clear out the Ninja cache folder on occasion.

I've done that regularly, too. It was part of the performance tips I quoted above.

However, this resets the account performance data, too, doesn't it? Or can you select to keep those?

Might be differences with NT7/8. Incredibly, a lot of things become worse with NT8.
