I know they correlate each other, but does any one know which index actually follows? S&P follows the DAX or DAX follows the S&P?

When you find that out, tell no one and just trade the one that follows.

there is no such thing, i am afraid.
in fact, no index follows anything but but its own course at all times. the fact they correlate 90%+ just means they move in tandem most of the times. there is no free lunch there i guarantee you.
I know that many times there can be a head start on the YM or S&P and then a delayed on the Russell then it follows....but I was trying to find out on the DAX
