Britain faces paying out billions of pounds under a European Union deal intended to prevent another financial crisis like the one in Greece.

All 27 EU finance ministers have been summoned to Brussels on Sunday to sign up to a “European stabilisation mechanism. Britain will be unable to veto this as it will be put through under the “qualified majority voting” system.

The deal, effectively to shore up the euro, was denounced as a “stitch-up” last night after it emerged Nicolas Sarkozy, the French President and Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, had devised it behind closed doors and were attempting to push it through at a time when there is no clear government in Britain.

It was declared a "done deal” by the 16 euro zone leaders who met in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Not wise to base a decision about a long term deterrent on current affairs.

The government seems to be employing a divide and conquer tactic in Britain or have something even more sinister up their sleeve. Self defence by definition is the ability to defend yourself, we currently do not have that right, which is a basic human right principle. Those people in Paris killed had no means of defence.

On Cameron's watch it looks like Scotland will cut themselves adrift from the UK. The people will cut the UK adrift from the EUSSR in next summer's referendum.
Across the pond Kerry still hasn't grasped who the US is fighting or why.

On Cameron's watch it looks like Scotland will cut themselves adrift from the UK.

Theoretically possible (just about), but realistically there's very, very little chance of this, for many reasons.

First, Cameron has already publicly announced that the duration of his "watch" is limited; secondly, there's no way the UK government would agree to another binding referendum on Scottish independence, so soon after the last one (it would - at most - be only a "statement of intent", like those Catalonian referenda in Barcelona with results completely ignored by the Spanish government); thirdly, even the Scottish Nationalists don't seriously suggest that, and it isn't their current policy; fourthly, it would depend on an "out" vote in the EU referendum and a "leave the UK" vote in a Scottish referendum - neither outcome predicted by current opinion polls.

The people will cut the UK adrift from the EUSSR in next summer's referendum.

Recent opinion polls all suggest not. A few by a narrow margin, admittedly, but most by considerably wider ones.

What makes you think the referendum will be as early as next summer? (Granted, it's possible: Nigel Farage predicts Thursday 16th June, but England are playing Wales on that day, so it doesn't seem so likely to me).

And boosted his ratings, each time? Well, the Republicans have a long history of not selecting the best candidates, don't they? Hillary will probably be "very happy for him"?
