It was fairly clear in the doc that Mad Mike really did not believe in flat Earth nonsense but it was attention grabbing.

There is an excellent series on debunking 9/11 by an English guy, his interview with a psychologist researcher (is much older than he looks) is very instructive on why even comparatively intelligent people sink into the bog of these conspiracies. I'll find it.

In fairness to the guy, I remember watching some short video on him & is why I remember him riding the flat earth bandwagon. I don't really think he actually bought into it but somehow suckered flat earthers into funding his nutty endeavors. He said he believed it, but had been doing this shit far longer than the flat-earth nonsense of late.

Their mental dysfunction is pretty well understood in psychology. Flat Earth has been a diverting thought experiment for juveniles to argue for decades like Libertarianism etc. Cute ideas, just not actually connected to reality.

It is getting a bit out of hand now mind you. About two years ago I set up a new smart TV and without any account entered and YouTube was offering flat Earth and other anti-knowledge junk just as a default.
