Daily Volume

I know Forex is not a centralized market, but I keep reading articles about moves on thin volume and statements of the trillions traded every day, does anyone know how daily volume is calculated or any sites that track it?

The BIS (or maybe the central banks) do a survey that all participants have to complete.

Volumes in the futures exchanges can be used as a proxy.
