Perhaps it is better to understand the market character as early as possible for the day. In target practice you might judge the strenghth and which direction the wind is blowing before firing.
But again, my examples above are "DIRECTLY" realated to what the market will give.

Assuming the daily target (say 2.5 points) is based on:
1. the trader's statistical analysis according to his trading strategy,
2. the target (if required) can be adjusted according to the recent/current market's characteristics,
I would guess both approaches can be co-existed without significant conflicts.
