This is something of a twofer. Showing the law was promoted by a sex offender and proving that snopes is a lying shill for the democrats all in the same post.
Here's how snopes tried to refute this:

They admit that the guy is a convicted sex offender, but try to marginalize and debunk the meme. The problem is that they have to lie to do it.
Snopes said first that it is false that the guy was behind the Charlotte bill, but then offers no proof at all that he wasn't. The evidence available suggests he was a very key player. He was the head of a lgbt business alliance in Charlotte and made public quotes in favor of the Charlotte bill before it passed.
Then Snopes attempts to set up a strawman and claim that hb2 proponents are saying that he is the 'lead man' against hb2, and that it is false. The proponents of hb2, nor breitbart, nor anyone else i can tell, ever claimed that he was the 'lead man' against hb2. What he was, was a vocal proponent of the original legislation in Charlotte to let men in girls bathrooms.
This is one of the best examples i've seen of snopes making an ass of themselves in an attempt to claim victory for democrats.
