Currency of the Future?

Quote from rphuga89:

If you only have $100 you will lose $3 per month for just keeping it in your savings account as fees..... in 34 months you will have a negative balance.

You're talking about Bank of America, right? ... BoA sucks ... it's a total rip-off ... I still have accounts with them but they suck ... go for HSBC savings ... no monthly fees ... and an annual return of 5.05% ... plus you can do everything online without ever having to talk to an agent ... even open an account ... you can withdraw money from your savings account from anywhere in the world ... there are no withdrawal or deposit fees ... if you have say 100$ in your HSBC account for 10 days ... and then you withdraw your money from an HSBC ATM in say Cyprus ... not only you will not be charged but in the end of the month you will receive the 10 day interest earned for the 100$ ... (5.05 * 10/365) = 77 cents ... just pointing to the fact that they are much more honest than BoA

One of America's highest savings account rates
No monthly maintenance fees
No minimum term

but then you have BoA

and probably a billion other hidden fees

a friend was just mentioning regional currencies to me, like the North Carolina Plenty, and Ithaca Hours. These may be an interesting sustainable community idea to look into. It could wind up an unconventional way to teach your daughter about regional commerce and community economics

What?

sorry it's early and i've been traveling for days.... all i meant was that regional currencies could be an interesting way to teach his daughter about economics on a community level. i really don't know much about them

No worries, I understood what you were saying. I've just never heard of "regional" US currencies. Are we talking Civil war period or something?

These are getting more popular everyday.

Its funny. A very smart person I know said that he believes there will be a move for some states to secede from the USA. Not in the near future but maybe 20-50 years. Primarily due to the major illegal immigration(why should the folks in Maine pay for the hordes stampeding across TX for example) issues the gubment cares to do nothing about. Throw in a stifling federal tax increase and rapid devaluing of the $ and you may have the makings for such an event. These local currencies may be the start.

Ah yes. Very credible. My favorite was this quote:

HOURs Go Global!
Ithaca HOURS were visited by a top official of China's central bank, sent from Beijing by the President of the People's Bank of China (their Alan Greenspan) to talk about adopting HOURS as money in China. Wen Tiejun reported directly to the bank's president, who delivered the report directly to China's Premier. HOURS have since been established there.
