Cuba - the new Paris

Quote from nitro:

Cuba should model itself using Switzerland politically and economically, Israel technologically and economically, Paris artistically, and the US in markets, infrastructure, and body of laws. Itself in soul and spirit.

Just avoid becoming a resort town and going back to the days of Castro or Batista.

Paris hasn't been artistically relevant since at least the 70s. You want drug war laws in Cuba as well as the US? :D How the hell is Cuba going to copy Switzerland - what dictator or oligarch would want to put his capital there, and where it the 100 year+ precision engineering and manufacturing tradition? They don't have the skills to sit on top of the global value chain.

Cuba should just concentrate on the basics - throw out the Castros, adopt a pro-liberty constitution, stay out of foreign affairs, moderate taxes, strict anti-corruption laws, and not let all their land get bought up on the cheap by US multinationals and South Florida emigres. They will have their hands full just ensuring democracy survives, and doesn't get co-opted by some caudillo or a bunch of noveaux-riche oligarchs within the first decade or two.
