The truly sad part is he and Tom Hanks are lib-TURD Nazis in real life... One lives a completely sheltered, lavish lifestyle, as another lives in a camper in a TX trailer park demanding more regulations, and wonders why he's unemployed... Roll Call reported that Cruz and House Republicans, including Reps. Mo Brooks (R-AL) and Jim Jordan (R-OH), met for roughly 90 minutes. Conservatives are ready to gear up to oppose amnesty efforts after the Republican leadership has signaled they will make pushing amnesty a top priority.
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has said he is "hellbent" on passing amnesty legislation this year, while Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), the GOP Conference Chair, said she hopes amnesty legislation could get to the floor by August. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said he thought sweeping amnesty legislation could pass by "June or July." Last year, Sen. John McCain (R-OH) said amnesty advocates would make a final push for amnesty after Republicans were clear of the primaries, and the high-tech lobby is reportedly gearing up to make a push in the spring to influence the amnesty debate.
After the House GOP leadership released its "immigration principles," Sens. Cruz and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) ended any momentum for legislation by saying the principles amounted to "amnesty." Amnesty advocates were upset that Cruz's opposition to the GOP principles effectively put the breaks on amnesty legislation.

You're right I could see Paul being good but there is no way in hell I'd vote for Cruz.
I don't recall a freshman Senator ever having the influence that Cruz has. Compare him to the guy everyone thought would be the star, Rubio. Rubio comes off as green, unpolished and not ready for prime time. No one takes him seriously now.
There is a limit to what Cruz can do however as an elected official. For example, he can't urge people to vote against amnesty-rat republicans, even though that is the only tactic that will get their attention. The Tea Party groups can though.
I can't believe Boehner would be dumb enough to push amnesty before the election. Even he doesn't want conservatives sitting out the election in a sulk. Probably they will go for it in the lame duck session before the new congress is seated. I wouldn't be surprised if Boehner doesn't resign afterwards and slink into some plum K Street job, like head of the US Chamber of Commerce or some other amnesty pushing group.
Their thinking will be that conservatives will be outraged but will get over it in time for the 2016 election, which will feature the all-time conservative bete noire, Hillary Clinton. With amnesty off the table as an issue, they will naturally assume we can all get behind Jeb Bush as the candidate. After all, he is "electable," just like McCain and Romney supposedly were. He has a mexican wife and half mexican kids, so they will fully expect hispanics to flock to him.
I tell you all right now, if this is the way it plays out, I will support Hillary, as evil and despicable as she is. Do we really seriously want to contemplate a third Bush, considering what total duds the first two were? And would we really let them walk over us like that? I usually will give a lecture about politics being about choosing between the lesser of two evils rather than expecting perfection, but at some point outright treachery must be punished even if there is a cost.
