Crowdfund a trading account?

Quote from FXforex:

Some of you guys don't get it. It's all about using Other People's Money.

What kind of mentality is that?

Learn to trade well and you wont need investors.

All industries, including the financial industry require investors. The World would be a very different place without them.

There is zero barrier to entry to having a trading account - why would you consider that an investable business?

Has anybody considered raising funds for a trading account through crowdfunding?

Crowfunding via the sources (links) you posted will not work for traders because its more for the "creative types". In contrast, you have better alternatives.

1) Trade your own money and grow it slowly

2) While doing #1 above, trade in the numerous trading competitions that offers cash as prizes (e.g. Dukascopy)

3) Work a second job or three jobs even if the jobs are demeaning or low wage. You'll have no social life for awhile until you've funded your account to the level you want. A few here at ET have done such...saving between 15k to 43k in one year of working multiple jobs.

4) If you do the above and you're good...you'll have enough proof to use to get funded by friends of the family or by those in your community

5) Donate your body to the local university research facility. Seriously, when I was in college there were students making about 10k per year.

6) Seduce someone that's old and rich...then borrow money.

1) No.
2) It's better to get $1,000,000 from one entity than to get $1 from 1,000,000 different people. Besides, you'll probably have to verify the "financial suitability" of each of those funders. It would be an operational nightmare.
3) If you lose any of the crowdfunders' money, you can potentially have a large number of "Obama voters" who will want to burn you out of your house. :(

Have had thought about that, why not use crowd sourcing platform to bring in OPM.

A systematic trading strategy is basically a software product like any other, a game or a application. A rule based algorithm where you put in data (raw quotes) in one end and get out data in the other end (signals) with a expected return and expected risk.

You could let people buy fixed size ownership shares of the strategy in chunks of $1000.

If your current trading ability is good enough to attract investors, you don't need crowdfunding.

If it isn't, then it's always other people's money you're using, eventually :D
