Critical Race Theory - Parents fight back

i was floored when I heard about this incident, I think it was 2019 or 2020, not sure because it was in kindergarten but I knew the teacher so the story got back to me as my son was in the upper school attached. First he wrote an email about teaching anything from that man and then he approached the teacher in the hallway on pickup and while not yelling was very angry and upset. I heard the daughter is an angel in class so this fucktard is going to ruin this child sadly. he was told to leave the school property and then was banned. He pulled his kid out a month later after getting a lawyer letter haha...

It is scary what happens nowadays out in the open.

As usual a pendullum swings back as far the other way and CRT is trying to fix things by being extreme. In my country a parent got up at a school board meeting and claimed CRT was marxist socialist indoctrination (was on the news).... I was like.....do you even know what marxist socialist indoctrination is or do you pick words FOX news tells you to say.

CRT is making the issue worse by allowing the far right to scare parents that white history is being erased or some shit like that and the far left is pushing it as some sort of reparation. It will not end well. Problem is most schools do a good job of history but it changes state to state.

Like Morgan Freeman said (and I paraphrase) " I don't like Black History Month.... when is White History Month? Why is my history relegated to one month? Black history is part of American History and should simply be included, not segregated out into a month"

This is because many parents don't understand what Critical Race Theory actually is -- and is not. They try to push everything under CRT including teaching about the negative aspects of our history as well as Inclusion & Diversity. This stuff is not CRT.

Likewise right-wing politicians are trying to push everything under the "Critical Race Theory" umbrella that they dislike to drive their social & political agendas --- and to rile up their base for re-election.

Teaching negative aspects about our history is not demeaning or belittling.. it is just facts.

All histories have negative and positives and you teach them all. I did not own slaves so when the teacher taught abotu slavery I was not demeaned because I am not a pussy.

"Critical Thinking" used by students when creating contextual history papers is very different than "Critical Race Theory".

I will note that educators who generally have a liberal slant have been driving lesson plans in school systems for decades. Due to this the history syllabus in K-12 schools generally already covers a comprehensive version of U.S. history including addressing issues of systemic racism, poverty, political abuse, and segregation. It is hard to make an argument that today's U.S. K-12 school lesson plans slant "conservative".

Yet teaching "Critical Race Theory" is a step too far for many teachers -- they see its destructive effect in the classroom, how it further divides students, and its intentional application of emotional distress. Yet many don't speak up (as noted in articles) because they will lose their jobs when school boards and administrators are demanding CRT be taught.

Dana Stangel-Plowe said Englewood's Dwight-Englewood School is going against its mission when it comes to teaching about race. She claims the head of the private Bergen County school segregated teachers by color — and threatened to fire the entire faculty and replace them with people of color.

Stangel-Plowe has taught English at the school since 2014, and recently took issue with the lens in which race has been viewed at the school in recent years, among students and faculty.

“I was asked to see myself as a white woman primarily, as the most important defining characteristics of myself. So we would do these things like have a privilege walk,” said Stangel-Plowe. She said that was when teachers would take steps forward or back based on things like race or socioeconomic group.

“I’m an English teacher and I teach: Don’t judge a book by its cover,” she told NBC New York.

The Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR) is a non-profit group founded by a parent of a private school student to combat critical race theory teachings, which says it’s dedicated to advocating anti-racism “rooted in dignity and common humanity." A board member for the group said what was alleged by the teacher is an example of bullying, and shouldn’t be used to teach students about racism.

“A lot of what’s going on here kind of perpetuates a lack of empowerment. Bullying tactics. That’s not a valid educational philosophy,” said FAIR Advisory Board Member Erec Smith.

When asked about the issue, New Jersey residents offered different responses. One Englewood resident said that “the more diverse the ideas we expose people to, the better off we are.” A Teaneck woman said that “they need to keep politics and racism out of the school system. It has no place.”

NBC New York reached out to the school multiple times about the former teacher’s claims, but received no response.
