It's these types of statements that hurt your credibility with folks.
You posture as more reasonable than a partisan hack but it's a charade.
Mexican's vote Democrat by better than a 2-1 margin. I think you can figure out which political party is less stringent about illegals.
The GOP passed a couple of resolutions opposing illegal immigration last year. The Democrat's soundly voted against the measures.
Do you or anyone (and for God's sake you live in SoCal-you should know) see evidence of cheap illegal Mexican's being a tool of "big business." Yes if you call the occasional Swift meatpacking plant gig as big biz but 80% of illegals work mundane "under the radar" jobs.
Chicagoland has 1.1 million Mexican's so I'm not ignorant to their habits. They work kitchen jobs, lawn care, hospitality ect. primarily for small businesses and often for other Mexican's.They ain't working for Cisco or GM. And even the one's cleaning rooms for Sheraton wind up out on the street when their visa's expire. Illegals are unemployed at about a 9% rate. In the wake of Arthur Anderson there's not to many publiclly traded corporations willing to roll the dice on whether the DOJ will take them down over illegals. Do you think at the end of the day the Ritz cares whether they pay a maid $4 an hour instead of $7? Fuck no but Pedro's Diner cares about labour cost.
Most of the Mexican's you see in high profile jobs are legal.
That's the dirty secret of this debate. MOST MEXICAN's ARE LEGAL. There's 42,000,000 Latino's in America. Even if one accepts an 11,000,000 highball figure on illegals it means 3 out of 4 latino's you see are here "legitimately".
The horse is so far out of the barn the discussion is non-sensical.
It's like talking about how can we keep nukes out of Pakistan. Oops...too late.

Quote from ZZZzzzzzzz:
The bottom line is that Bush and company are sold out to those who will profit in the near term on this issue...among other issues where he is a sellout.
You love Bush when he is pro business that serves your interests, but anti Bush when he makes what is essentially a business decision.
I am opposed to illegal immigration, but it has to do more with the way in which this country looks the other way to allow the rich to get richer...
Bush is effectively rendering the term illegal as meaningless...
