Crime and Punishment

Quote from nitro:

......We have legalized homosexuality (I personally don't care). We now have lots of gay marriages and gay people openly throughout society. If we legalize drugs, is the end result likely the same, and do we care?

The end is nigh. :(

Quote from nitro:

I don't know about all drugs. But according to many of these articles, a very large percentage of the people in jail are drug related.

I strongly believe that is only a symptom of the real disease. The world is a wasteland of the spirit. People have no idea what to do with themselves and their ego. I honestly don't know what the answer is, but imprisoning every one in sight is throwing the baby out with the bath water.

In the Christian bible, God eradicates most of humanity several times. This era reminds me mostly of,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodom_and_Gomorrah

which goes to prove that man is on an endless cycle of this sort of thing. We have legalized homosexuality (I personally don't care). We now have lots of gay marriages and gay people openly throughout society. If we legalize drugs, is the end result likely the same, and do we care?

Isnt it interesting that the majority of people in jail commit crimes when they are on drugs, or desperating craving drugs(including alcohol). How often do you see people go to prison that committed their crime when they were 100% drug free? You just rarely see a violent tattooed criminal that was drug free his whole life all of a sudden commit an assault/robbery/murder/drug deal.

If you legalize immoral behavior, you will just have more immoral people. If society legalized sex with kids, there would be all sorts of old men out there cruising the Jr. high schools trying to "pick up chicks" without a doubt. We live in a sick world, lets not cater to these people.

I think you are putting the horse before the cart here. In many cases if not most, it is because they crave drugs and don't have the money to afford it that they commit [some other] the crime. If you legalize drugs, the idea is that the price would come down, and while you don't solve people wanting to live in fantasy land, at least you remove the other crimes they commit in order to get the drug. I am not sure that society cares so much for people getting high. Nowhere else does society seem so compassionate, so it cannot be compassion for the addicts. It is what people do to get high, or the results of being high, that people care about. So goes the theory...

I agree...
