cpu usage at 100% ???

If you agree to clean up some porn pictures will greatly improve. 
- Try to see the responsible process, someone has already pointed out how to do so in the previous post.
- Contact IB if the responsible process belongs to IB's application.
- Try to run a defragmentation of your hard disk. It's slightly improved but not much.
- Try to detect whether your computer is infected by a virus or worm.
By the way, IB application is a resource eater. For example, I went to their website and just left a browser there, my CPU usage went from 1-10% to 40-50% range. The test was made under Dell Pentium 4 @ 2.66GHz 1.5GB RAM, GNU/Linux FC5, Firefox. I hope they don't use the same design style for TWS as for the website.

I have the same comp as you do a 2.66 with 1 gig and its been running like crap.
I have ran ad-ware daily and have ran norton anti virrus every other week with no problems. these 2 program totally spiked my cpu too

i have done a defrag as well.my next computer will have linux.
Don't run the ad-ware, destroy this program. Ridiculously, the anti-spyware is the spyware in itself. Run Yahoo anti-spyware and cleanup from time to time is a better option. Can you snapshot the CPU usage window and include it in your next post. Don't worry too much about the spyware, president Bush has a bill for that.

my next computer will have linux.
You may have a lot of apps running in the backgound.
A lot of things like IMs, printer/ digital camera software, and media players are set to load when you start your computer.
I use Spybot to turn them off in the System Startup section.
You can also remove BHOs with spybot.

Also, I have friends on all different IMs, AOL, MSN, Yahoo, etc...
AOL IM caused alot of problems, so, I removed it along with all the other IMs and downloaded Trillian.
It works with most of the major IM services, doesn't automatically load when I start up my computer, and there's no pop ups.

No, I don't have any solid proof about it nor knowing very well about it. It's just I have a friend who used to run this kind of program and his computer was very slow. Then after he had stopped running this program his computer speed was significantly improved.

I had the same problem with 100% CPU useage until I found out that my Spy Sweeper program was running in the background full time. It was causing my browser to jump and everything slowed to a crawl. Spy Sweeper was constantly snooping through my PC's guts eating up tons of RAM and CPU energy. I now run it when I want to and then shut it off. My PC came back to life.
My TC2005 Trading Software (I love TC2005) eats up 100% of my CPU while downloading. My CPU is an AMD Athlon 1.47Ghz. With 256MB of RAM. I think it is time for a new system. I've been too busy making money trading to buy a new one. Ain't that a kick in the head for you?
I got rid of most of the icons on my task bar. I put the icons on my desktop instead. This way they are not running constantly.
I also turned off all "automatic updates." They come on at the most pain-inducing time and cause my system to almost stop. I thought snails were slow...

Isn't Norton AV itself a huge resource hog?
I switched to Avast on the reco of a geek friend (or... come to think of it, maybe it was on the reco of FT71! Can't recall, but clearly remember a discussion in which a bunch of guys said Norton was a resource hog).
