My standard is keeping things in context with reality. You said it's the worst outbreak on the planet. The reality is that this isn't even close, nor will it be even if it kills a million. Perspective is all we have to save us from making really dumb decisions in the midst of a crisis. Lose that and the consequences get much, much worse.
