I was one of those in the original vaccination discussion, siding with the idea that vaccinations are not as harmless at they are made out to be.
As a logical thinker, it is nice to read all the supporting evidence about how vaccinations could not cause autism, even if part of my mind wonders if anyone would come out and say they do cause autism - knowing what a shitstorm that would bring down on the medical industry, doctors, the CDC, etc in terms of lawsuits and the like.
As a parent, I have no luxury of trusting in these organizations. I must make my own decision, and some of that decision making comes from anecdotal evidence, like family and friends experience.
I have a very good friend who has twin sons. He took them to get vaccinated around 6 months, and the doc gave them a cocktail with 6 vaccinations in it. The very next day, they had high fevers and had to be hospitalized. Slightly less than a week later, when the kids were released from the hospital, my friend swears they were different babies. Before, they smiled and cooed. After, they were unresponsive, and eventually turned out to be severely autistic. He swears it was the vaccinations. Who am I to call him a liar?
Regardless of whether vaccinations cause autism or not, giving a 6 month old a cocktail of 6 viruses = (dead or weakened) is asinine. Their bodies aren't designed for that type of immuno-combat. I remember when my son was born, and they wanted to give him a Hepatitis vaccination. I essentially told them to piss off, as my son was not at risk for Hepatitis (neither my wife nor I have it and my son wasn't about to be sexually active any time soon). They carried on about how the CDC recommended it, and I told them I didn't give a shit what the CDC recommended. They weren't vaccinating my child with anything.
Later on, I spaced out his vaccinations, one every 6 months. I allowed them to do DPT as one, as that had been around forever.
