Slur relativism from the right...
Ad hominem is ad hominem, right?
Or are you once again in the business of saying "Our sins are not as bad as their sins, therefore we are righteous."
Hell, it is not as if people call right wingers Satan...wait, I think maybe I have heard the Church Lady on SNL say that before...
Face facts, you give Mann Coulter, Rush et. al a free pass the exact same way the left gives Bill Mahr, etc. the same pass...
The bottom line is that if Jay Leno says something comparing someone to Hitler or the Devil, etc. it is
known ahead of time that he is a jokester, and not to be taken seriously.
Mann Coulter wants it both ways, she wants to be taken seriously and she wants to use slurs when she feels like it...twisting her long hair with her finger saying in defense of her intentional slurs that "I am just a girl, it is just a joke."
At least people like Mahr, Franken and many other stand up comedians who attack the right wing could and did make a living in comedy, where as Coulter makes a living only as a flame thrower for the right.
Oh yes, many people do laugh at Mann Coulter, but as a laughing stock, not as a comedian...I think if you ask real satirists like Mort Sahl, who attacks both left and right if Coulter is funny or clever and he would say no.
Roseanne Barr could say Bush is worse than Satan or Hitler, and she might actually mean it...at least one of her many multiple personalities might mean it...but no one takes her seriously overall. Mann Coulter wants to be taken seriously, and so do the other talking heads on the right...this is the difference between a satirist or comedian, and simply an angry partisan taking swipes at the other side with poor comedic skills...
Quote from AAAintheBeltway:
But isn't the point that Coulter or anyone else on the right doesn't go around gratuitously calling their opponents "Hitler?"
Implying that you couldn't talk about Edwards without using the term faggot was definitely a low blow, but it was clearly sarcasm. Calling people Hitler because you disagree with them is not. It is beyond the pale, or at least it should be.
