Cotton Rises to Record

Quote from S2007S:

They remain depressed?

When is the last time you stopped into a Gap, Express, Guess or Macys? A basic button down starts at $60++

The only depressed prices I see are the sale prices they try to sell their clothes at well after the fact they been on the sales floor for months.

Are you kidding me? Those concerned about rising clothing prices are NOT shopping at those stores, looking for $60 shirts.

Kassz,

Are you a central bank supporter?

That depends on what you mean by "supporter". And on which central bank you are speaking of.

Quote from Butterball:

Look at it this way: the speculators now help up drive cotton which in turn will convince more farmers around the world to commit acreage to cotton, hoping to participate in the higher prices. That will (in theory) create new supply.

Aka the market at work, searching for equilibrium.

I read an interesting note. commodity price are not the leading factor in acreage decisions, input prices are the major culprit of what to grow.

Oth, with all the ethanol noise cotton probably took a back seat.

So the farmers are faced with the same media noise we all deal with and plant corn, high growing costs, end up with a small return. Everyone is talking about corn, follow the herd and voila, cotton hits a high.
