Besides saving lives immediately (at what cost , economic and human ?) lockdowns also raise the risk of secondary waves, which is mentioned in the link above, Really upset with the situation in Spain, can t complain too much about our family setting to endure the lockdown but absolutely hate it, seing videos of cops harassing, fining, sometimes slapping than detaining people hanging out by themselves who were probably going crazy and unhealthy locked in their small apartments, makes me probably sicker than the virus would, and for a longer time.
The idea this mess, which is probably far from over, might start again within less than a year has me considering moving this summer to an european country where public funds are put to better use and where the government doesn t resort to one of the most repressive policies on earth when it appears unable to deal with a situation, quite a bit schocking after moving out of China fed up with authoritarian regimes.

As of Trump claiming 2million deaths if there are no lockdown, i wouldn t put too much weight into it, this man pulls numbers out of his ass when it fits his agenda.
Not claiming a whole bunch of peolple aren't going to die though

Just checked, still better than Spain, here this evening they announced 950 coronavirus related deaths for this thursday. Besides France shares many of Spain's problems/cultural traits but is better organized imo.
But yes not thinking of France, most likely is we stay, if not and if we want to play safe move to Germany, else just head to Belgium where we almost moved last year, but Belgium seems to be buried pretty deep in coronavirus issues.
Let s see how it plays out, tough lockdown here, not allowing people to just stroll outside or exercise by themselves has been going on for 3 weeks, and it seems far from over. I suspect the government will need to relax some of the rules, already helplines for abused kids and women/men are seing significant increase of activity. I suspect suicides, domestic violence, mental and physical health issues from locked people will keep raising. Italy yesterday authorised tkids to go play outside 1 hour per day with an accompanying adult, this rule might show up soon, but reopening of public places seem way further away.
Add to this the government is a coalition of socialist and anti estsblishment/far left party and the country doesn t control its currency, the business community appears now more afraid of government economic decisions than the virus.

It sure doesn t look good but this number include 880+ death in nursing homes accumulated over several weeks. I have plenty of family in France btw but mostly in the South, where they also endure strict restrictions yet the coronavirus there so far isn t spreading enough to overwhelm the health system, but some provinces (East and Paris) do appear to suffer a lot

Btw those are not deaths from simple retirement homes but rather Ehpads. Which are medicalised nursing homes for dependant adults, lots of people are on their very last stretch and get palliative care there. My grandfather died in his mid 90s in one of them last summer shortly after joining, the doctors had said months before he entered already he could die anyday.
