China is in real trouble. They seem to be isolating entire villages and then providing no medical care.
Rnot is being estimated at around 3 and that is serious. Fatality rate is harder to gauge and the reliability of data released by China is questionable.
I'm not normally given to wild speculation but I would not be surprised to see some countries ban all international flight entries. In the United States that decision is political... unfortunately.
I had a doctor appointment yesterday, flu shot and checkup, and they gave me *one* mask to take home. One. There were people at the medical center wearing a mask and nitrile gloves and there isn't a single case in my state. Crazy.
I was given a Coronavirus form to fill out when visiting a walk in clinic in Georgia (US) this week.
So let’s recount the features of the Novel Corona virus: It is zoonotic, that is, it can infect multiple different species, it can spread asymptomatically making it harder to contain, this virus is metamorphic, meaning it can reinfect someone again, possibly at a time when that host’s immune system is weaker. Further, this virus has killed quite a few people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. I would imagine smokers are more vulnerable the catching this virus and its effects as the virus tends to affect the respiratory system.
German and Chinese doctors have expressed their concern in letters and original research as published in NEJM.org, a website representing the medical community. One can check out the CDC.gov websites, the World Health Organization website (who.int) and wikipedia.org articles that includes a timeline of the viruses spread and actions of world leaders as well as health organizations. We all should want to stay informed with this ongoing event.
Bottom line, the Novel Corona Virus is a serious issue and if crosses an infection threshold, it will inevitably lead to a significant number of deaths, social unrest, and economic hardship. In fact, XI himself expressed concern for social unrest in China as a result of the virus.
