And yet the current level of infection, cases per capita, and nearly all the other figures are lower in European countries than the U.S. --- this simply shows that the Trump administration in the U.S. is not taking COVID seriously and a dismal winter is ahead of us.
U.S. reports a record 500,000 new cases in the past week, as the Trump administration says it is ending the pandemic.

We should wait till the covid virus is completely gone and then start to count numbers. Only the final result counts and different countries are in different phases of the pandemic.
In cycling, care races, running, the winner is the one who crosses the first the finish line. Their position before the finishline is irrelevant. In the case of Covid the loser will have the highest numbers. With half a million new cases a week (+40 % over the previous week) the US is trying to get in pole position.
And Trump is telling already months that covid will soon be gone. In that period more US citizens are gone (death) and more virus has come.
