President Donald Trump on Thursday revealed that scientists are looking at a malaria drug called chloroquine as a possible treatment for coronavirus.

“Some people are looking at chloroquine — or some people would add “hydroxy” — hydroxychloroquine. Chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine,” the president announced during a press conference. “This is a common malaria drug, it’s also a drug used for strong arthritis, somebody has pretty serious arthritis, also uses this in a somewhat different form. But it is known as a malaria drug and it’s been around for a long time and it’s very powerful.”

The president then expounded on more virtues of the drug, including the fact that it will not kill the people who take it.

''But the nice part is it’s been around for a long time, so we know that if things as planned, it’s not going to kill anybody,” he said.

I mean this is not good news (article headline below) but not bad news either.

It is part of getting on with business, getting it out there in use to see how it works with corona, and seeing what the supply chain issues are. Better to be out there slugging and knocking down obstacles than just going in circles trying to put a dress on to get into the lifeboats.

Giddy-up. Let's go. If the treatment is worthless, let's figure that out as fast as possible too. Ditto for all other options that need to be looked at.

Production of 500 million N95 air-filtering respirator masks that President Donald Trump ordered could take up to 18 months to get into the hands of the hospitals and healthcare professionals who desperately need them, because Trump doesn’t want to buy the masks from China.

Bloomberg Law reported Thursday that the grant application revealed the information that hasn’t been distributed to the public.

Currently, hospitals and healthcare workers are being told to reuse masks or make their own out of scarves and bandanas. At the same time, hospitals are also beginning to run out of hand sanitizer in some locations, with medical suppliers unable to refill.

If Big Pharma starts balking at this they need to be strung out to dry. Patent on Chloroquine is long gone. hard for them to charge big bucks for it. Hence they need to be forced to supply.

Thought I heard somewhere there’s like 30M tablets in supply?

That is strange since South Korea got it.... then again what about Taiwan, Malaysia and Vietnam which has regular travel between them and China...
