What that chart is missing are all the revisions and "hedonoic adjustments" over the years. CPI is a worthless joke. Look at cotton, oil or wheat prices if you want to see real inflation.

So if you look at said commodity chart during a collapse, then we have massive deflation? I don't think looking at two or three commodity charts tells much beside the price action of said commodities.
I don't really follow cotton very often, but I do know that clothing prices have been pretty flat over the past 15 years. In fact, they might even be down.
