Quote from murray t turtle:
=======================
A28;.
New Orleans showed what a crooked mayor does;
no respect for2nd amendment
But did you see the 2 crooks in full body armor, huge supply of ammo,fully automatic weapons turn a Los Angeles bank robbery into a a killing field????Some years ago,it happened.
Thank God there was a sporting goods dealer nearby;
cops ran out of ammo, had to do some ammo shopping.
And that put semi auto [dont know if fully auto] rifles in LA police cars:
auto and police car chases seem to be a bigger killer than weapons.Police are well trained with guns;
requires refresher courses also.
You make some good points. Cops should be adequately equipped to defend themselves and takeout criminals.
But how often do we see this type of machine-gun bedlam? This is the First gun fight I've seen where cops were decidedly outmatched by automatic fire power. Is this such a regular everyday, occurrence that we should panic and rush to hand every American Cop an M16? How many more innocents will be killed when average beat Cops spray their AK's into a crowd, gunning down some criminal?
Second, the Cops would have been much better served with two or three sniper rifles than an armory full of AK-47's.
Like you said, the concern is Cops, untrained or unfit, using imprecise automatic weapons in public. Why not train half - or a quarter of Cops - as sharp shooters and load sniper rifles in cruisers for just such a stand-off? This would address the publics concern for safety and the Cops need to end confrontation quickly with tactical superiority visa vis to what most currently use (handguns)?
Third, how many taser "related" deaths have we seen across the Country? Lots. Over 40 and counting. Two Canadian Doctors and an American civil Judge found Tasers were the definitive cause of death in three cases. Its common sense: Taser shocks release 50,000 volts of current into the human body, seizing neurons that innervate muscle tissue but not cardiac or lung tissue? Right. These weapons are akin to jamming a fork into an electrical socket. Every week we hear reports of Cops wildy shocking the eldery, infirm and children several times! Three, four, five times! On one person! And then we're surprised Tasers are implicated in all these deaths? Its just plain stupid. So if this the is the type "discretion" we can come to expect from everyday Cops when they get a new Toy to play with, how much more can we trust the entire Nations Police Force swaggering about with Ak-47's?
Cops still have SWAT as a backup.
Another fact to consider - Courts and Juries are becoming less and less inclined to convict Cops in any type of excessive force or manslaughter case. Its exceedingly difficult for the average person to even bring a cop to trial civilly, as most District Attorneys will refuse to even file charges. Well-known cases like Rodney King and recent New York shooting were egregious cases of excessive force and negligent manslaughter. Nothing happens. Sure, theres a lot a bloodlust out there - F* Rodney King, he was a wanted felon who deserved it blah blah blah. The fact of the matter, we live in a Society where Rule of Law is king. As soon as we accept Street Justice as an acceptable form of retribution served by the "Boys in Blue", that boot is gonna be stomping on our face pretty soon.
