Cooltraderdude's TopstepTrader Combine (daily trade report and journal)

We may be old school, and Ben does provide much more info than before, and we like the service. Some people still use level 2, not sure why, but some still do. Some think paper trading helps, some don't. Lots of things that may help an individual, but not necessarily everyone.

Without getting yelled at by Maverick, and totally agreeing with his analysis of traders from your years at Vtrader..... and since anyone can get into an emini, for example, within one tick, could traders not just simply write down "entered here, exited here" until they were doing well,, then go live?

If they choose to get help with some of this, then great, just like our new people do. Some come to training, some wait, some wish they hadn't waited, some are already good, don't need any help. Way too much discussion on much of this. But, I'll take some blame for just asking questions, my fault I guess.

Cool trader dude..

if the game is rigged for you to lose and its pointless then why were you a trader? and why are you here now? if its pointless are you just torturing yourself? is this a hobby?

brainwashed lol i have traded for while too... I dont take anyones word...i find out for myself...and from my (and many) peoples experience discipline is HUGE...you dont have to agree that is fine... and not making money trading isnt a big deal.
there is for sure some luck in this game no doubt, especially in the short run.

Had a quantifiable edge... Gone now... Tried to see if I could do it by trading alone..

The answer was failure...

This has been educational because it's kicked all the crap out of my head.

Out of trading for good... Feeling clearheaded and at peace about it...!:)

Exactly. So 3 years you had to learn. Most guys on the option floors had to clerk first. It would be pointless for them to spend their money to stand in a pit and not even know what they are doing. Well Don, that is exactly what happened with this cool trader dude. He didn't know anything about futures. He couldn't figure out the software. He couldn't figure out which contract was the active month. He couldn't figure out what the trading hours were or even tick values. Guys have to learn Don. And I see no reason why someone should drop 10k to 30k learning this shit when they can do it for free. Once they learn it, they can apply to one of the better prop firms in Chicago (there are many). They can go to Patak. Or they can do what I suggest and fund their own account at someone like Velocity Futures. I think we are finally reverting to the mean here you and I. :)

Oh don't worry cupcake...

Your Combine is coming up on Monday... I'm going to be on your ass like a pitbull on a french poodle...!

Joe, you are missing the point. Have you ever played football? If you play football not to get hurt, guess what, you get hurt! The goal for every trader doing the combine should be to become consistent and to perfect a process that they can repeat day in and day out. If they do that, they will get funded. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but they will. If you simply focus on passing the combine you are going to develop bad habits and trade scared. CTD was a perfect example of this. You heard what he said. He said after he was down after 4 days, he did the math and the only thing he could do was take big shots. Now explain to me with that attitude how that guy is going to develop good trading habits. See Joe, here is the problem. If getting funded was the be all end all, then why are so many guys getting sent back to the combine after they go live? It's because they have NOT become consistent. Who cares about passing the damn thing if you are going to manipulate your trading simply to pass. They are going to cut you off fast. You're never going to see a check. You are not going to profit off of it. So what's the point?

You might as well focus on becoming a good trader. That way when you do go live, you'll be able to stay there and get paid!!!!!! Honestly it's no different then lying to a girl to get her to go out with you. I guess if you just want a one night stand that might work. But if you actually want have a real relationship with her, lying to her and telling her you a big time lawyer that makes 500k a year when in reality you work at Subway and live at home with your parents is not going to cut it. You have to look at the big picture. People spend so much of their time in life looking for ways to cheat the system or get the quick score. But it never lasts. One should focus on becoming the best trader they can. This way even if they don't ever get funded, they can fund themselves with the confidence of knowing they are a good consistent trader.

...LOL... Damage control for the industry much...?

Try not to choke on Monday...!

Don can I pretend to ask a girl out while she is 100 yards away and can't hear me? Just askin....:D

No, I've actually tried the pen and paper approach. Seriously, I have. Never worked for me. Maybe it's just me, I don't know. There is something about seeing your p&l staring down at you that does something to your psyche that quite frankly, a pen and paper can't seem to do.

Don back when I worked for a market making firm on the CBOE we use to do mock trading upstairs after the close. I remember thinking at the time, this will be easy and fun, I was looking forward to it. Then the yelling started. Oh shit did they yell. The would scream in your face for a market and you had to give them a bid and offer based on the synthetic. I remember asking them why they had to yell at me so loud, can't I just write down the prices and give them to you. No, they replied, because that's not how it's going to work in the pit. They are going to YELL at you.

Maverick is in combine on Monday? I thought he said he wasn't. But, ok, good. Let me say that I think Mav will do well, but can't imagine he would split profits with anyone? Is this right Mav?

Don

Don, the reason I keep asking you if you are with me is because it's very obvious you are not reading this thread. There have been over 20 pages about me and surf doing a combine. Surf asked me to do it with him as he is going to write an article about it. Michael also personally asked me. I didn't want to do it really as I have a shit load of positions on right now. But since no one else stepped up, I agreed to it. There is no profits to split as it's a combine!!!!! LOL. Seriously, I know we have discussed this about 18 times now. You keep giving me a hard time by talking down to you but Don, you are not doing a good job keeping up here.

So anyway, yes, Michael offered Surf and myself a freebie to demonstrate what the previous guy couldn't. Going through the entire process. Don, can I ask you a serious question. Do you really not understand this? Or are you just being coy for some other reason?
